Sun-Kissed Celebrations: 10 Irresistible Reasons Why Summer Weddings Are a Crowd Favorite!

There are two words that are a match made in heaven–they are “June” and “bride.”

Well, weddings can take place any time of the year, even in the coldest of cold winters. (Yes, that is a trend, these days!) But, we don’t hear brides being associated with any other month, as much as with June! So, we have to conclude that June is perhaps the most popular month for weddings, and it goes without saying that this is because summer weddings have and will always be a huge thing.

We love weddings, whichever be the month that they are held in. Whether summer, spring, winter or autumn, a wedding is always a special event. Having said this,we must also say that we have this soft corner for summer weddings, and with good reason too! In fact, we have ten reasons why we, and the rest of the world, think summer weddings are great! Let us look at what they are.

#1 The long days are a dream come true

The longest days of the year are in summer, and this gives you ample time to enjoy our wedding day without worrying about how early the sun will set and it will be best to dismiss the party. With the sun taking its own sweet time to go to sleep, sunset weddings can be held late in the evening. This allows both the wedding party and the guests plenty of time to get dressed and reach the venue. The best thing is that you can plan your ceremony late in the evening, and not trouble your guests with having to leave work early in the day, to make it on time. The same goes for you too. Take your time to perfect your bridal look, for there is plenty of time.

Summer is also the ideal season to plan a non-traditional outdoor morning ceremony. Wedding brunches that are over before the sun gets too warm are a perfect budget option, that is both casual and fun.

#2 Brides have many more dress options

Take a look at our bridal gallery and you will soon observe that most wedding dresses feature sweetheart and strapless necklines. Many wedding designers bring out plenty of dresses that feature sleeveless and strapless necklines, and this has been the trend for a while now. However, it isn’t a great choice for when the weather is cold, as you will be forced to find an option to cover your arms, at least temporarily.

With summer weddings, you don’t have to worry about this at all. With the warm weather, you couldn’t be more comfortable than in a dress without sleeves or straps. And this allows you to choose from a greater range of options, and find the dress that fits your vision perfectly. Since there are countless choices in soft, airy and breathable fabric, you won’t have much trouble finding a dress that keeps you comfortable during the day. More on wedding fabrics and how to choose the right one, in our previous post here.

#3 Summer time is so joyful and full of color

As the sun smiles down and the flowers are in full bloom, there is a certain joy in the atmosphere that is not found in any other weather. Summer is so full of joy, and weddings being a celebration of love and happiness, there couldn’t be a better time for it. Your guests will also be eager to step out of their homes and enjoy your wedding. This is irrespective of whether it is held indoors or outdoors. The longer days make everyone active, and they will be eager to attend your summer wedding than battle the snow and make it to a winter wedding ceremony.

Now, haven’t you noticed how people like to pull out the most colorful clothes to wear during summer? We think that as the weather becomes warmer, there is a general tendency to shift from the light and pale wintry colors to deeper and brighter colors that reach their saturation levels in summer. Soon afterwards, autumn arrives and the color palettes again recede in intensity, moving towards light or neutral tones. So, if you want a bright and cheerful crowd who will liven up your wedding atmosphere and photographs, you simply have to plan your wedding in summer.

#4 Summer bounty makes menu planning easy

menu

Summer is the season when you have the best of farm produce to spice up your wedding menu. If you go local or with the seasonal variety, you still have so many options. Nature’s bounty is lavish in the warm summer months, with produce like squash, pumpkins and other colorful fruits and vegetables in abundance. Not only does this allow you to plan a spectacular and vibrant wedding menu, it also allows you to do this without costing the bank.

Another thing to remember is that summer weddings allow you to hold a daytime function like a brunch buffet easily. These are cost-effective options where you can serve delicate and light food that will be satisfying and interesting, and it will be much cheaper than a full-course plated dinner. Since the weather will be warm, your guests may not appreciate a heavy meal. This will work in your favor as you can focus on appetizers and drinks, instead of expensive desserts and rich main courses.

#5 It is vacation time anyway

With schools off for summer and many families planning their holidays at this time, it is a lot easier for people to attend your wedding. If you have invited children, their parents will appreciate attending the wedding at this time of year. This is because the children will be free without having to rush through a hasty weekend wedding to get back to school on Monday. Now, if children aren’t attending, it is still easier for the parents to arrange child care for them. Many of them may already have arranged for a babysitter while they are at work, and it makes sense to simply extend the service to your wedding day without much ado.

It is also a known fact that many people choose to go on annual leave during the summer, and with prior notice they can plan to attend your wedding, and adjust their vacation plans accordingly. It also helps your friends or family in university, as they will mostly have their annual break in summer. When you get married in June, it is closer to the holidays, and this allows you more time to leave town and enjoy an extended honeymoon.

#6 Summer gives you plenty of time to plan your wedding

That is, unless you’re just engaged and plan to have your wedding right away! But, barring this circumstances, we think summer weddings are the most practical weddings. If you have a year or whereabouts to plan your wedding, you can take  your time to plan your wedding look, do your dress research and decide on your wedding décor by winter. You can even place your wedding dress order before spring, and still have enough time to get the alterations done. Come spring, you can go shopping for all the other things you need for the wedding, place all your orders and book everything you need. The pleasant spring and summer weather will allow you to easily meet your appointments, and do all your last-minute tasks without worrying about frozen roads, snow or unexpected blizzards.

With so much time on your hands, you could even plan a destination wedding easily. Nevertheless, we always suggest sticking to a wise and well-planned wedding timeline, so everything progresses as per plan. Here is a wedding checklist that can guide you in this direction. Follow it and make sure you are all set for your wedding.

#7 Summer is the season for destination weddings

Like we said earlier, summer is the right time to have a destination wedding. Your choice may be an exotic beach far away from home, or even a venue in the adjacent town. All the same, this is the right time to plan a wedding a little away from home, because you can afford to make the most of the warm sunny weather and travel far for the biggest celebration in your life. Planning time off work is practical in the summer months, and it will also be easy for your chosen guests to attend your wedding as this is the popular vacation time.

Many exotic destinations offer special wedding packages this time of the year. You may be able to book your honeymoon stay at a reduced rate, or club it with the wedding venue costs. Getting married on the beach, where surf and turf meet, with warm salty breezes punctuating the air—it is a fantasy come true for many couples, and summer makes it possible.

#8 Summer is the best season for flowers

If you are a bride who is excited about flowers, summer is the perfect time for you to plan a wedding with plenty of floral details. The most popular wedding flowers–lilies, gardenia and carnations, are in full bloom during summer. This not only makes bulk ordering budget-friendly, but is also is an eco-conscious decision. When you choose to have these flowers in any other season, they are usually shipped to your location from greenhouses in other parts of the world, where they bloom at the given time. This can not only be expensive, but is also very unfriendly on the environment. Summer makes it possible for you to explore the several options in locally available and seasonal flowers, and you will have ample variety to choose from.

This article on the Flowerexpert blog will enlighten you on the several flower breeds that are available in the warm sunny months. Take a look at it, and you will soon realize how right we are when we say you have no dearth of options.  So, if you want your wedding décor to be filled with blooms of different varieties, colors, sizes and designs, you simply must have a summer wedding. And we are sure it’ll be spectacular.

#9 Summer allows you to sport a fresh tan and look beautiful

Most brides would love to look tanned and beautiful on their wedding days. Getting a real tan is close to impossible in the winter, autumn and even spring. You would either have to opt for the services of a tanning salon, use tanning spray or fake tan. But we all know that none of these come close to the real deal.

Fortunately, with summer, you have the perfect situation to do this with the help of mother nature itself. Spend a stress-free afternoon at the beach, or simply rest in your own backyard, and you will have that magical tan before you know it. And, there is no doubt that a bride with a tan looks fantastic in a beautiful white wedding dress. So, make it happen with a summer wedding, beautiful brides!

#10 Summer weddings make small local businesses happy

With more weddings held in summer, couples turn to the various businesses available locally for their various wedding needs. From florists, to bakers, venues, makeup and hairstylists, photographers and transport companies, all the local businesses see their revenues go up in the warm summer, thanks to the wedding clientele they host at the time. Since the demand for vendors is usually highest this time of year, most business owners are happy as they have a better chance of doing good business.

So, it simply means that not only do summer weddings make the couple themselves happy, they also help the local businesses enjoy the best part of the year with more profit and business. With everyone happy, it is a joyous occasion in every way.

So, there you have it—summer is a fantastic time for a wedding, and undoubtedly one of our favorites. If you have your wedding lined up in the warm months this year, don’t forget to visit us at Best for Bride to find all that you need for your dream wedding. From wedding dresses, to dresses for the bridal party, wedding cakes, invitations, party favors and more, we have every wedding aspect covered under one roof.

Bridesmaids dress shopping: 10 valuable tips

If you thought wedding gown shopping was stressful, just wait till you start looking for your bridesmaids dresses!

Finding the right dresses for all your girls, so they not only fit into the wedding scene beautifully, but are also satisfied with your choice, can be a little too difficult to achieve. It is a challenge alright, but one that is possible to deal with. And, we are here to help you with it today.

Go with these 10 tips listed here, and you will feel the stress of bridesmaid dress shopping lifted in a big way.

#1 Remember that one dress needn’t fit all

Unfortunately, there is no single dress style that will look good on every woman. Women are built differently, and every one of your bridesmaids will have her own unique built, height, size and color. So, choosing a single design for all your girls will usually end with one of them not looking too great. Also, it is no longer the trend to have matching bridesmaids. So, be ready to be flexible with your choices. Keep your mind on the big picture—you want a cohesive look that is interesting and attractive.

We suggest you look at dresses that are similar in two or three aspects and vary the rest of the features. For example, consider the same color and different designs, or different colors with the same design. You can also check out different dresses from the same designer collection. This way, the fabric colors will match, but your bridesmaids will each have their own unique look. One word of caution; don’t give your girls free reign to pick any dress that will fit the idea. This can end up becoming haphazard, and their overall look may not come together. It is better to stick to a certain set of criteria, and let your girls find dresses that suit them, while also meeting these requirements.

#2 Discuss budget upfront

Since your bridesmaids will be paying for the dress, you should discuss the budget with them, before you go shopping. Get a clear idea of what is the maximum they can afford to pay for their dress, and make sure you do not ask them to stretch it any further than that. Remember that the amount they suggest is usually inclusive of alterations and accessories, and it will be good if you can clarify this if you aren’t certain. Then, plan your shopping budget and do your dress research based on these numbers. Once you know the amount that your bridesmaids are ready to shell out for their dresses, you can search online. Look for collections that will give you what you want, in this range. Make the most of sales, discounts and offers.

At Best for Bride, we often offer discount on bulk bookings of more than a certain number of bridesmaids dresses. So, if you search around in advance and place your orders in one go, you will most likely be able to avail of such offers and help your girls get the best deal for their money. Also remember that it isn’t necessary that to use up all the money they are ready to spend. If you find dresses at a better bargain, I am sure they’ll appreciate it if they can keep the extra cash for themselves. So, be a considerate bride. Your bridesmaids will love you for it.

#3 Start early

Just like you spend months researching and planning your wedding day look, you will need plenty of time to find your bridesmaids dresses. So, start early, and do your research several months before the wedding. The benefit of starting early is that you can make the most of any sale or offer that comes up in the months leading up to the wedding. You should have sufficient time if you start seven to eight months before the actual date. Since you will already know what you want, it is just a matter of waiting for a good deal to come up. Research is a lot of fun, when you do it online, as you can see almost every dress that will be available in store, on the boutique website.

Once you order the dresses, you will still need time to have it altered and fitted, so it is perfect in time for your wedding day. 75% of women who buy bridesmaids dresses will need alterations. While this will mostly take just one appointment, it can also take two or more depending on the type of dress chosen. So, have your bridesmaids mark their calendars for dress appointments and alteration sessions well in advance, so everything progresses smoothly.

#4 Ask your girls for their inputs

Your bridesmaids may have ideas of what they would like to wear to your wedding. Welcome their opinions. Whether you take it or not is up to you, but it won’t hurt to ask. You can share your own vision of how you expect them to dress on the day, and then ask them for their suggestions. There are several digital apps like Pinterest and Evernote, where you can share pictures and ideas with each other. So, use this to streamline and collate all the information that your friends would like to share with you.

If there are certain styles that your bridesmaids would rather not wear at all, eliminate these from your selection. Not all girls are comfortable wearing strapless dresses or ones that are too short. So, stay away from such choices unless you know they won’t mind wearing it. The same goes for colors too. Not all colors may look good with all skin tones, and if your bridesmaid is worried that she will look sickly or washed out in a particular hue, it will be good if you choose an alternative that will work. If there are silhouettes that they think would be best on them, you can plan the overall look based on it. When you know their preferences, you can choose a dress that they will get the best out of. Dresses in universally flattering colors and in silhouettes like A-line or with V-necklines look good on most body types.

#5 Go shopping by yourself the first time

This is a simple way of ensuring that your opinions are not side-lined, and you can actually see what is available. Book the first appointment with the salon and attend it by yourself or just with a friend, say, your maid of honor. We think this is essential, because some dresses that you may have shortlisted online, may look entirely different when seen directly.

So, rather than hauling all your girls down and discovering this, it helps if you do a test run yourself and make sure that what you had in mind is what you see in person. If you do not have any specific designs in mind, and intend to go with what is available in shop, you can discuss your ideas one-on-one with the shop assistant, and find out what she has to suggest. Bring the girls in later, and the actual appointment will be a lot easier. Remember that it has to be your decision finally, so prepare for the options and you will make it in a much wiser way.

#6 Ask your girls to mark their calendars, well in advance

Not all your bridesmaids may be the super-organized or easily available. So, every extra inch of time will help you with your bridesmaid dress shopping. Once you have a general idea of what you want, or perhaps have even picked out the lot that your bridesmaids will be selecting from, don’t delay getting your girls to the shop. Fix a date and ask them to make themselves available at the said time.

If you have a relatively large bridal party, with more than 4 or 5 bridesmaids, it may be a good idea to break them up into two lots. This will help you focus on those who are there at each appointment, rather than make it a noisy and busy affair. Our suggestion is that you make your picks during your first appointment session and only show these to the bridesmaids, to choose from. This way, there will be no chances of swaying too far from your opinion, and you will get the cohesive effect you wanted, in the end. Once the dresses are picked, the shop assistant will measure your girls and suggest alterations. So, schedule their fitting appointment right away, so you can get that out of the way.

#7 Delegate duties to your most reliable friends

With a wedding to happen, we know how you will be buried under wedding planning tasks. Remember that you needn’t handle each and every detail by yourself. This is why you have a Maid of Honor and bridesmaids in your team. Delegate the responsibility of getting the girls to their dress fitting appointments, paying their dress bills on time and receiving their dresses in time for the wedding. It will be one job off your shoulders, and you can spend the saved time on something else that deserves personal attention.

If your Maid of Honor isn’t the right person to handle this task, there should be someone else on the bridesmaid team, who can do it for you. Hand over this responsibility to her instead. To be on the safe side, make sure that you check on the arrangements once in a while, so everything progresses as per plan and your bridesmaids all have their dresses in time for the wedding.

#8 Don’t stress too much over your decision

If you are the ultimate perfectionist, we know how you can easily feel overwhelmed by the hundreds of choices out there. Yes, wedding planning is a little monster, where you never know for sure whether the choice you made was actually the best one available. But, don’t sweat it!

At least in some areas, good enough is enough! So, don’t loose sleep over your bridesmaids dress selections too much. Take it light and go with what you think is good without too much deliberation. Make the most of your inspiration boards and what your shop assistant suggests, and it will most likely work out well.

#9 Accessories will complete the look

The overall look will also be determined by the accessories you chose for your bridesmaids. You have to choose bouquets, jewelry and shoes. Reusable choices are the best, as it will help your friends make their money go further. Choose neutral colors and designs that flatter everyone on the team. You can even mix and match them up, so each girl has her distinct look but still blends in well with the rest of the team.

If you feel uncertain about your dress choice, you can always dress it up or down by the apt choice of accessories. If your bridesmaids dresses were expensive, it would be very considerate if you pay for the accessories. This could double up as your bridesmaids gift too. Work with your imagination and draw inspiration from the various pictures you may have seen in magazines and online. Make sure that the accessories, hair and makeup, all come together and look attractive and suitable for your wedding theme.

#10 Remember you cannot always make everyone happy

Your bridesmaids may not always be happy with what you want them to wear. If this is the case, you may feel worried about forcing your choice on them. If you have tried your best by choosing within budget, adjusting your priorities to accommodate their likes and cannot help any further, just stop trying to make it work!

Bridesmaids should realize that it is the bride’s likes that get priority, and that they were prepared to accept it when they signed up for the role. So, don’t feel too guilty as you have to stick to your vision of how the wedding day should look and be. It’s your lifetime celebration after all, and you don’t want it to be different from what you always wanted, just because your friends aren’t too happy with your decision.

At Best for Bride, we have a comprehensive and extensive collection of bridesmaids dresses from several designers. Check it out today, and we are sure you will find dresses for all your bridesmaids in our collection.

Cool wedding accessories for the winter bride

Cool wedding accessories for the winter bride

Winter weddings are no longer unusual or nerve-wracking. There are plenty of brides who choose to get married in winter, making the most of the discounts during this off-season and thus having a fantastic wedding at a fraction of the original cost.

Nevertheless, winter weddings involve a certain level of planning, since the harsh weather may throw up some extra challenges. The bride has to choose her attire and accessories so that they are both practical and good-looking. Fortunately, there are plenty of options out there to consider.

If you are a winter bride, you do not have to worry about compromising your style. Instead, you can look fetching and perhaps even more glamorous than a spring or summer bride, when you plan your look properly. Here are some cool winter accessory suggestions we are sure you will love.

Winter wedding hair accessories

Elegant winter has a cool and crisp white charm to it. To make an impact in this striking white canvass, you need some sparkle. So, your winter wedding jewelry choice should essentially sparkle and shine. This is the right time to go with oversize wedding necklaces and earrings and not look overwhelming. Crystals, zirconia and diamonds are all options to consider. If you want to nail the fairy tale look, don’t hesitate to choose a tiara as your headpiece. Winter is one season when the tiara looks right, and it isn’t everyday that you can walk around wearing it. So, make the most of it when you can.

Here are two suggestions from our accessories collection at Best for bride.

This dazzling beauty is a head piece that can be considered a crown. With one that is so spectacular in size and details, you do not even need a veil to accompany it. Whether you pair it with your hair let down or with a bun, we think it will undoubtedly be a beautiful accessory. Find out more about this beautiful tiara by visiting this link.

If you felt the first one was a little too sparkly for your taste, here is a headpiece that is elegant and sophisticated, but much smaller in size. This headpiece features both sparkling stones as well as pearls, thus bringing together two different elements to fashion an elegant and pretty design. With this design, you can pair it with a matching necklace and ear studs as is featured here and complete your look perfectly. Check out this headpiece by visiting this link.

Winter Veil

Though not all brides choose to wear veils today, winter is a time when you should really consider this wedding accessory, simply for the added impact it can create. A wedding veil that is placed beautifully can transform you into a snow queen, and once again this is the season when even the longest and thickest veils will not look out of place. We love layered veils, not just for the added material it contains, but for the layered look that is so mysterious.

Here is a short double layer veil from our collection at Best for Bride. Simple in its structure, but with huge impact from the ruffled up layers in it, this is a beautiful choice that will complement almost any wedding gown. Whether you pair it with a sparkling headpiece, or wear it by itself, it will be an attractive accessory that will improve your overall bridal look.

Boleros or jackets

When you get married in winter, there will certainly be few minutes during the day when you will have to step out in the cold. It could either be during your entry into the venue from your vehicle, or when you go outdoors to take photographs in the cold. However brief the time spent outdoors may be, you will have to cover your shoulders and arms to keep from feeling too cold.

Many brides choose full-sleeve wedding dresses for winter weddings, as these usually cover up the shoulders and arms. However, there are brides who do not like this look at all. If you are a bride who has your mind set on a strapless or sleeveless design, do not worry. You can still wear this dress, and simply find an accessory like a bolero or jacket that allows you cover up when outdoors. A bolero is a short jacket that basically covers only your arms, shoulders and upper back. A jacket is longer and gives more significant coverage. It would be a good idea to choose either of these in white, as it will go well with your wedding dress.

Take a look at the jacket with this dress from our in-house collection at Best for Bride. The strapless satin gown can be worn by itself, or with this beautiful jacket that adds instant style to the otherwise simple design. With full-sleeves that start high at the neck and extend into a Juliet-style sleeve that later flares out at the base, this jacket is a beautiful accessory. Don’t you think it is a great choice for a wedding in the cooler months, when that little coverage is essential to stay away from the chilly breeze? If you want to check out this wedding dress and accessory, you can do so by visiting this page.

If you would like to look at something warmer and a little more dressy, we also have this beautiful fur cape with fine Tulle lace lining the sleeves and Peter Pan collars and further covering the edges along the entire length. The neckline can be drawn close with the little woolen tassels and keep you smug for as long as you have to spend in the outdoors. It is a great choice to wear with both lace wedding gowns and satin gowns, as the style works well with both vintage and modern styles alike.

Stylish wrap

Some wedding dresses have elaborate and exquisite detailing in the neck and shoulder regions, that wearing a jacket or bolero may conceal it completely. Another factor is that boleros and jackets aren’t very versatile, and there are very few ways in which they can be styled. If this factor makes jackets and boleros less attractive to you, the winter wedding accessory you should consider is a stylish wrap. Just as warm as a jacket, but one that allows you a lot of flexibility in the way you wear it, a wrap is perfect for a winter bride. It can be worn around the neck and shoulders, and the accessory can be used to keep the arms warm when outdoors. Depending on the fabric and thickness, there are different ways in which it can be worn. Wraps can be styled either as shawls or as scarves, and are a functional as well as good-looking accessory.

Featured here is a fur wrap, that is very comfortable and cozy to wear on a cold snowy day. The other options you can consider are wraps in materials like silk or made from pashmina, that are warm but not too bulky. It is a good idea to match the wrap to your wedding dress color, as this will add to your overall style.

White wedding boots

One of the most important things to remember when choosing your wedding shoes is that they should be comfortable. You will be spending long hours standing in them, and it should keep your feet snug and warm. In winter, you can always go with the traditional wedding shoe styles. However, they may not really be cozy if you have to spend even a short amount of time outdoors. The better option is to choose shoes that are appropriate footwear for the cold weather. Don’t worry that you’ll have to skimp on style because of this. There are great choices in white boots that are both fashionable and practical too.

Shoes like the ones featured in the picture here are very stylish, and they can make sure you look gorgeous from top to toe. The special button-up design featured in the front makes it exquisite and attractive, and nobody could possibly question your fashion sense when you choose a pair like this. While you can always change into a pair of boots when stepping outside and wear your regular wedding shoes for the rest of the time, we think that you needn’t even do that when you have a splendid pair like these. There are also shoes that are lined with fur and can keep you warm.

Glittering ear pieces and bracelets

We’ve already mentioned about how sparkling jewelry is a must-have for a winter bride who wants drama and glamour. Here, we should specially mention over-size ear pieces and bracelets, as these are necessary to creating the perfect bridal look with maximum impact. Chandelier earrings, drops and large hoops are all great choices for winter wedding accessories. When the sparkle is not spared in any way, the effect is really beautiful and noticeable.

Take a look at the accessories this bride has chosen for her winter wedding day. The oversize earrings have a striking effect, and they work well with the dazzling neckline of the wedding gown, also scintillating from the intricate crystal elements scattered over it. All these details make it a good idea to skip a necklace for this dress, as it could create a cluttered look. Instead she has chosen to wear two bracelets, again with plenty of sparkle, to dress up her slender arms. We think it is altogether fantastic, don’t you agree? If you decide to skip the oversize earrings and choose something subtle, like a ear stud, don’t hesitate to add more sparkle to your overall look with a beautiful necklace. We have also found that  jewelry with deep dark gemstone looks particularly grand in the winter wedding scene. Stones like blue sapphire and deep red rubies are perfect to create this effect.

Glamor with gloves

Just like we found warm and snug winter boots to warm your feet, you need something to cozy up and keep your hands warm too. Bring back the charm of vintage style with a pair of fantastic white gloves, that will double up by keeping you perfectly snug. Whether you choose to wear them throughout the day, or only when you step outdoors, it will still be a ravishing style statement. You can choose them in material like suede, leather or even fabric, depending on what matches your style. If you do not want to cover your entire wrist and hand, you can also consider wrist warmers that leave your fingers exposed. You can wear this throughout the ceremony, as it is possible to use even during the exchange of rings.

If you want something truly vintage, forego the modern short glove that ends at the wrist, and instead choose long gloves that extend all the way from your fingertips to the elbows. Imagine how classic the pairing of these style of gloves would be with a strapless or sweetheart neckline.

We hope these ideas will help you accessorize your wedding dress to stay warm and still stylish at your winter wedding.
