How to Be Hot and Hairless on Your Honeymoon

Nothing is more of a mood killer than getting hot and heavy with your new hubby, only to have him run his hand across your body and straight over an outcropping of stubble. For years women have been plucking, shaving, waxing, and tweezing only to have that pesky hair return faster and thicker than before! Thankfully, one of the newest and more technologically advanced techniques on the market today is laser hair removal. Now brides-to-be can say good-bye to their daily hair removal routines once and for all in preparation for their big day.

Laser hair removal is a safe and effective means of ridding your hair from literally any location that hair grows with the most popular areas being the legs, underarms, bikini line, and Brazilian (everything from front to back in your private region). The laser works by targeting the melanin (pigmentation) in the hair follicle and uses heat to completely destroy the root of the hair, preventing any future growth. Because of this, the most ideal candidates for this treatment are those with lighter skin tones and darker hair (so the laser doesn’t accidently target the melanin in the skin), although there are newer lasers on the market that can treat clients with all different skin tones as well. For better results, it is advisable to not have tanned skin when going in for laser treatments. Keep in mind that the laser will not work on everyone. Blonde, grey, or white hairs cannot be treated as they lack pigmentation. Since the root of the hair is destroyed, the results of laser hair removal are extremely long-lasting, though experts do not like to use the term “permanent” as the technology has not been around long enough to do accurate studies.

Plan to start your treatments several months prior to your wedding or honeymoon as you will need multiple treatments in order to achieve success. Hair grows in 3 different cycles and each hair will be in one of these 3 phases at any given time. The laser only effectively destroys the hair during one of these phases so it is necessary to have on average 6-8 treatments. Sessions are scheduled approximately 4-6 weeks apart in order to allow hair to cycle. After your laser treatment, you will see hairs beginning to fall out within the first couple weeks and significantly less and less hair will return with every session.

There are a few temporary side effects such are redness, soreness, and itchiness that may be experienced immediately after treatment but it will usually go away within a matter of hours. In very rare cases, improperly set lasers can lead to minor burns or hypopigmentation (leaving lightened splotches of skin that may take month to disappear). The importance of finding a skilled and certified laser technician and being honest when answering their questions about your ethnic background (to determine skin tone) cannot be stressed enough. The knowledge of the person performing the procedure can make the difference between a pleasurable experience and a not so good one. It definitely pays to do your research.

Many women have experienced great success with this hair removal method and some have even found it to be addictive. After all, who doesn’t want to be soft, sexy, and smooth for your big day, your honeymoon, and for the rest of your happily ever after?

Wedding Car of the Stars

The glitz, the glamour and the glitter of a celebrity wedding is fascinating to us mere mortals. While the rest of us are happy being swept to our own wedding in a classic Used BMW, Hollywood does things a little differently.

If you’re one of the Kardashian sisters, one car is never really going to be enough is it? Kim Kardashian’s wedding saw her travelling in style with a fleet of cars including Rolls Royces, Maybachs and more! Every guest arrived in ice-white luxury. Miss Kardashian has always taken her method of transport seriously as she drives a Rolls Royce Ghost around Hollywood just to run errands, so it’s no surprise she went all-out with the transport for her wedding.

Also a fan of the Rolls Royce, Britain’s newest royal, the former Miss Kate Middleton, opted for a 1977 Rolls Royce Phantom VI to get her to the church on time. Unperturbed by the fact that a few months previously, her father-in-law Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles had been pelted by eggs and bottles by protesters in the very same car, she chose the Rolls over the classic Glass Coach favored 30 years earlier by Lady Diana Spencer. Maybe she wanted to avoid some of the spectacle a carriage would have provided. Leaving the Abbey was a different matter. Kate and Wills wowed the crowds following the ceremony in an open topped 1902 State Landau horse-drawn carriage on their trip back to Buckingham Palace.

For a touch of old Hollywood glamour, you can’t do much better than Grace Kelly. In her wedding in 1952, she traveled to the church in a Mark Vl Rolls Royce / Bentley Park Ward convertible finished in British Racing Green for a look that was as understated as it was glamorous. One of only 6 ever built, the car is still available to hire for those who can afford it and want to emulate one of the most beautiful women to ever live.

Going the traditional route with a vintage white Rolls Royce for her 2011 wedding, the usually oh-so-edgy supermodel Kate Moss made her wedding to Jamie Hince totally timeless. A classic car gives any wedding a touch of glamour and will certainly prevent wedding photos from looking dated when Kate looks back on them in a few years.

Not technically a celebrity wedding, more the wedding of a celebrity sibling, Keira Knightley was a bridesmaid at her brother’s wedding in 2010 and got just as much attention as the bride in her prom-style plum-colored bridesmaid’s dress. Giving the wedding a kooky edge, the bride arrived in a classic London cab. However, for the purposes of wedding transport, the cab was white. This unusual method of wedding transport helped designer Kerry Nixon (in her retro wedding dress) really stand out from the crowd.

If you fancy a bit of celebrity style at your wedding, you may not be able to hire a fleet like Miss Kardashian, but you can hopefully hire one beautiful car to make your wedding special.

Why Loose Curly Hair is Perfect for Weddings

simple curly wedding hair

I am due to get married to my long term partner at the end of November and because I only ever plan to get married the once, I want absolutely everything to be perfect. Like most brides however, my biggest concern is regarding how I will look during the ceremony and as such, I have spent the last few months experimenting with different styles of makeup and hair. I am still undecided regarding which colour of eye shadow and lip gloss I will don for the event but I have decided that I will be wearing my hair in ringlets.

But why I have I chosen to have curly hair for my wedding? Here are just three reasons I want to wear a curly do on my big day:

  • Curly hair is a traditionally romantic style
  • Curly hair is far more comfortable than other styles of wedding hair
  • Curling you hair for a wedding is easier than you might think!

Loose curly hair is a traditionally romantic style

I studied a module of Greek mythology during my time at university and I have to say that I have become pretty obsessed with Greek Goddesses since then. Many of these fabricated – yet powerful and classically beautiful – women had long curly hair, including Aphrodite (the goddess of love and beauty) and Hera who is fittingly, the goddess of marriage, women and childbirth. Curly hair was considered the most beautiful hair style in Ancient Greece and there are worse things to look like on your wedding day than a goddess!

Numerous studies have also been conducted with men over the years to determine the “flirtiest” of hair styles and unsurprisingly, curly hair came up on top. Maybe that has something to do with the temptation to twirl such around your fingers? A recent news story even announced that some academic research has discovered that those women who don curly hairstyles in the work place are also taken less seriously by their male peers due to the supposedly flirty aesthetic.

It might make me sound like I am not pure enough to wear a white dress but I like the idea of looking a little flirty and attractive to other male onlookers at my wedding – why wouldn’t I want people to be jealous of the groom?

Loose curly hair is far more comfortable than other styles of wedding hair

Although many traditional wedding “up dos” look pleasant enough, they are usually pinned to the head quite tightly and this can cause the scalp to pinch. Some women might be happy to live by the sentiment that “pain is beauty” but I don’t want to be uncomfortable throughout that day that is supposed to be the happiest of my life!

Arguably, I could wear my hair up for the ceremony and undo it for the reception but after affixing an up style using several styling products, the hair is not easily reworked into another style due to the build up of product – I definitely will not have time to wash and restyle my hair between the two sections of the event.

Wedding up dos are also usually also built up around the position of the veil. I really don’t want to have to wear mine all day and because mine if the kind that has a hair grip built into either side of the band, it will be far more easily removed from locks that are loose than those which are tightly bound with bands and hairspray.

Curling your hair for a wedding is easier than you might think!

My hair is naturally poker straight and as such, there would usually be a little pain involved in transforming my locks into beautiful curls due to overnight techniques such as ragging, pin curling and hair rollers. Thankfully, I discovered a product that makes sleepless nights whilst curling a thing of the past; Curlformers.

I don’t want to bore you with the details regarding the application of these wondrous curling tubes (details of this can be found on the official website) but here are the reasons I love the product so much;

  • They do not require heat to work and so they do not ravage your hair;
  • They are incredibly easy to apply and remove from the hair;
  • Curlformers produce incredibly defined curls for whoever uses them;
  • The curling tubes are really flexible and so are not uncomfortable to sleep in;
  • The tubes are of really high quality and are pretty much indestructible and so make for a very worthy investment;

If my marriage lasts as well as the curls one can achieve with Curlformers then I’ll be in marital bliss forever!

Jacqueline Green is convinced that there is no better way to achieve curly hairstyles than with Curlformers kits – she really has never used a better hair curler!
