Mother’s Moment to Shine: 3 Essential Tips to Help Mom Find the Perfect Dress for Your Big Day!

Every bride will agree that wedding shopping is more complicated than it seems. You not only want to look stunning on your wedding day, but want the entire bridal party to complement your look too. Where your bridal party is concerned, one person who deserves extra help picking out her outfit for your big day is your mom.

This article on the Huffington post mentions that dressing a mother of the bride is usually more challenging than the bride herself, as there are a whole other set of constraints to meet.  After all, everyone notices her and you don’t want her to look anything less than beautiful on your special day.

Although it is only right that you allow your mother to pick her own dress for your wedding, there are some things you can do to help her make her decision easier and to ensure that what she wears goes well with your wedding theme. Here is what you can do.

1.Give her a reasonable variety of colors and patterns to choose from

Whether it is color or pattern, don’t restrict your mother’s choices to just a few. It is a big day for her, so she should have the liberty to choose a dress that brings out her best. Make sure that your suggestions include colors and designs that she will be comfortable in. Give her a wide range of colors that will blend well with your wedding palette, and suggest a range of patterns that will look good on her. This will allow her to look at more dresses and locate one that she loves.

2. Help to co-ordinate with your future mother-in-law, so their looks on they day complement each other

Traditionally, the bride’s mother picks her dress first, and then the groom chooses a dress that matches it. Although the two mothers weren’t expected to dress the same, their choice of dresses were supposed to be complementary and go well together. This may sound unrealistic today, but wouldn’t it be good if their looks matched? Talk to your mother-in-law before both mothers go shopping and find out whether she has any specific plans on how she will dress on the day. You can then suggest designs for your mom. Go with either a traditional look or modern style for both moms, and their dresses should ideally be in different colors but ones that go together.

3.Encourage her to step out of her comfort zone and choose a dress that will allow her to shine

Many mothers decide to go for something classic and safe for their daughter’s wedding day. You know your mother’s personality and the type of dresses that she can carry off confidently. Encourage her to choose a dress that will bring out her best features, and in which she will look elegant, but different. Why don’t you spare some time to look for designs that you think will look great on her? You could offer to go with her when she goes shopping. It would be exciting for both of you, and you will remember the experience fondly as it becomes part of your wedding memories.

Turning Fifteen with Flair: 5 Expert Tips to Select the Perfect Quinceañera Gown!

Quniceanera has historically been celebrated in communities of Latin America on a girl’s fifteenth birthday, and signifies the transition from childhood to womanhood. The wiki on Quinceanera mentions that this tradition that can be traced back to ancient Aztec culture, still continues to this day under various names like “Festa de debutantes” in Brazil and “Fete des quinze ans” in the French Caribbean.

via Best for Bride

On this day, the birthday girl is the center of attention, and deserves a dress that allows her to steal the limelight. If your Quinceanera celebration is soon to be celebrated, here are some tips to help you find the right dress for your big day.

Recognize your body type to find the right silhouette

You may have fallen in love with a certain dress, but remember that it needn’t look as great on you as it does on the model. This is because the beauty of a dress is enhanced when it is draped on a figure it is designed for. So, your first step in preparing for your gown shopping is to identify your body type and what features you would like to emphasize or hide. If you are heavier on the top and have broad shoulders, you may prefer ball gowns to balance out your figure. These dresses also suit girls who are straight with very few curves. For girls with a small chest and wide hips, empire silhouettes or dresses with asymmetrical pleats would look good. If you have an hourglass figure, you can carry off almost any dress, including fit and flare gowns.

Fix your budget before you go shopping

Quinceanera gowns are available in various price ranges. Know your maximum budget, so you do not look at gowns that are out of your reach. When planning your shopping budget, also put aside an amount for alterations and accessories. Some girls choose more than one gown, and change after the reception. A more budget friendly option is to choose a dress with a removable overlay skirt, so you can sport a traditional look for the ceremony and easily transition to the stylish shorter hemline for the reception by removing the outer layer.

Pick your colors carefully

There are two things to remember when picking your dress color; it should match your complexion and it should go well with the colors at your party. If your party has a specific color theme, make sure that the color of your gown blends well with the theme. While some colors will bring out your best, others can leave you looking pale, fat or sick. If you like a particular design, but the color isn’t nice, check whether the gown is available in other colors and make your pick from them.

Make sure it is comfortable

Quinceanera gowns involve layers of fabric, and can quickly weigh you down. When choosing your dress, look for those that don’t feel too tight or stifle your movements. Walk around, sit and move in it to make sure it is one that you will be comfortable in, prior to purchasing it.

Get it altered to your measurements

If your dress doesn’t fit your like a glove, you will not look or feel good in it. After you select, get a professional seamstress to alter the gown to your exact measurements. This will make all the difference between looking good and great. So, don’t skip this step.

At Best for Bride, we have an interesting variety of Quinceanera dresses, perfect for your big celebration. Check it out today and make your pick.

The essential guide to Wedding Invitation Printing Techniques

Your choice of stationery, size of invitations and method of printing are what determine the total cost for your invitations. When printing your wedding invitations, you have several techniques to choose from. Being aware of these different printing options will allow you to not only choose a method that fits your budget, but also to achieve the desired look and effect. So, let us find out what our options are.

Engraving

This is the traditional style of printing that has been used for ages. It is an expensive method, as the letters are etched on the cardstock in thick and good quality ink, using copper plates. After the ink is applied to the plates and pressed on the paper, the card is subjected to high pressure so the letters are pressed down into it. Engraved text is sharp and raised on the right side, and there are depressions on the other side of the page. It looks sophisticated and classic, but comes at a considerable price. Having your invitations engraved will take at least four to six weeks. So, if you choose it, place your order early.

Letterpress

This is a handcrafting method, where the ink is manually pushed into the paper using a metal plate on which the text is prepared. The result is similar to engraving, but not as refined. Your invitation cards have to be bulky and soft, for letterpress to work. Although it is expensive, it is cheaper than engraving. So, if you want a textured and sophisticated invitation, consider letterpress. The complexity of the design you choose is what determines the turnaround time. A set of invitations can be completed in as little as two weeks, or may take as much as two months.

Thermography

Another formal style of printing, thermography uses heated ink with resin powder to create lettering. The print is very similar to engraving, and has a raised surface. However, it is not as fine. This technique is affordable and takes less time to complete. You may however, have limited options to customize your invitation with colors.

Offset printing

This is the standard flat-printing that we are all familiar with. It is a low-budget choice, but looks very good when done well. Here, the ink lies flat against the surface of the paper, and you can choose to print in any color, format or design. Offset printing can be done quickly.

Digital printing

The results are similar to offset printing, but digital printing is done on thinner paper. It uses a printer, instead of a press. The method is suitable for casual wedding themes and it is possible to do almost any design or use any color, with this technique. This is the cheapest and quickest option, and you can have your invitation cards ready in a matter of days.

The style of printing you choose should reflect the formality of your wedding. After all, your invitations set the tone for your wedding. Although there are no hard and fast rules here, it is better to go for engraved, letterpress or thermographic printing styles if your wedding is a black-tie event. For a casual or semi-formal event, you can choose offset or digital prints.

Trends we Love – Rainbow Inspired weddings!

rainbow-569864_1280We have seen various themes at weddings—some classic, some formal, some casual and others fun! We have seen a variety of color palettes, some of which were right, and some others that didn’t suit our taste!

A great part of the wedding experience is based on the colors in the décor. By executing a beautiful color palette, you can have a stunning wedding setting, that your guests will remember for long. If you are a girl who loves colors, but can’t get your mind around to which colors you ought to choose for your wedding, here is the solution! Go for a Rainbow Inspired wedding.

Doesn’t the name itself sound lively and bright?

Take inspiration from the rainbow, an element of nature that never ceases to marvel, and let your creativity free. With this theme, you will have a colorful and elegant wedding, if you do it right. Here are some tips to get you going.

Begin with your invitations

Choose your wedding invitation stationery in white or ivory card stock as the base, and add the details in various colors to allow your guests a sneak peek into the theme of your wedding. Err on the side of elegance, so your invitations don’t look as though they belong to a child’s birthday party.

Beautifully bright bridesmaids

Mix and match your bridesmaids dresses with colors that add up to VIBGYOR. You can choose a collection, and have your bridesmaids select dresses in different colors from it. For the groomsmen, specify the same colors for their ties or shirts, and your photos will pop with color. It is up to you to decide whether you want the colors to be bold and intense, or soft and light. Remember that the mood created by either choice is different, and go with what suits your personalities best.

Flowers and Centerpieces

Here is an idea for the bouquets—have separate bouquets for each of your bridesmaids in colors that match their dresses! Imagine how stunning the overall effect would be! Similarly for the boutonnieres for the groomsmen.

If you have a smaller budget, consider having your bridesmaids wear a neutral like black or gray, and bring in the colors of the rainbow through the bouquets they hold, and other accessories such as shoes and headpieces.

Mix and match flowers of various colors in the floral centerpieces, or else choose to have each centerpiece in a single color of the rainbow.

Decor

Choose appropriate décor elements, depending on whether you want the effect to be casual and inviting, or formal and sophisticated. Balloons and paper lanterns in various colors have a casual vibe, whereas textile curtains, multicolored lights and complex flower arrangements create a more formal touch. Keep the base white and the colors won’t clash with what is present.

Dessert and gift table

You can be daring and choose a multicolored tier-cake. Else, keep the base white, and decorate it with colorful floral elements, lace, hearts or other toppers. Or you could keep the frosting simple, but on the inside have layers in every color of the rainbow. Throw in colored macarons and cupcakes, arranged in the VIBGYOR order, and your setting is picture perfect. For wedding favors, use multicolored yarn or colored boxes to tie them to the theme.
