When you want your pet to be at your wedding

pets at weddings

Many of our families often include feathery or four-legged furry friends too. So, isn’t it only right that they are also included in our wedding day? After all, this is usually the most special occasion of our lifetime, and wouldn’t it be incomplete without these adorable little members

Although you can easily accommodate your pets into your wedding plans, how you do it would depend on several factors. The extent of involvement would also affect the preparations and plans. Whether you want them there as honorable guests, or in a more active role (I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve seen dogs play the role of adorable ring-bearers and groomsmen!) is up to you. But, before you do, here are some things to consider.

1.Does your venue allow pets?

Not all venues admit pets. So, this is an important factor to consider, if you must have your pet in your wedding. Check with the venue if it is an important factor, before booking it or paying the deposit, so you needn’t be disappointed later. If the venue you like doesn’t allow pets, either look at other venues, or think of whether you would rather include them in the wedding without them actually being there. More on that later!

2.Will your pet be comfortable in the setting?

Not all pets are calm, well-trained and happy in crowds. So, think about this factor. If your pet is always well-behaved, irrespective of the setting he is in, you may have no trouble giving him an important role in your wedding. If he is boisterous fellow who is easily excited or aggressive in crowded places, or becomes unhappy and withdrawn around loud music or children, you may like to have him participate as an onlooker. Since you will have a busy time on your wedding day, and may not be able to stay with him if he becomes uncomfortable, make sure you hire a pet-sitter or have a family member take care of him.

3.Think of the comfort and safety of both your pet and your guests

Your pet may be uncomfortable in certain settings. Unless your pet is used to crowds before, or has been in a similar setting previously, you really cannot predict how he will behave on your wedding day. Or it could be that you have wedding guests who are intimidated by animals. So, it is always recommended to prepare for any likely situation. Make sure your pet is well-cared for and nobody gets an opportunity to tease or taunt it and frustrate it. Also, let your guests know in advance about your pet’s participation, so they can plan accordingly. Putting a note about it on your wedding website, should be enough. In the best interests of both parties, it is wise to keep your animal on a leash on the day, so you can avoid any untoward accidents.

4.How will you care for him

Like we said earlier, you will have a lot going on, and it is simply impractical to tend to your pet during the chaos. So, you should make arrangements for his care during the day. Hiring a pet-sitter is the best option. This person can stay close to him throughout the day, make sure he gets his food on time, is kept away from guests, take care of his toilet needs and take him home when it is time. It is a good idea to hire this person early, so your pet gets used to him or her and is comfortable in time for your wedding day.

5.Make sure there isn’t anything that disturbs your pet

Some flowers are toxic to animals, and without you around to supervise, the risk of your animal coming in contact with it or ingesting it is higher. Keep it safe by avoiding such flowers and ingredients in your décor and menu, so your beloved pet isn’t in trouble. Similarly, make sure that he is kept away from loud noise that can hurt his ears, or from the dessert tray that he may try to stick his paws in! On a similar note, if you plan to dress your pet in a special wedding outfit, make sure it is comfortable for him. If he isn’t happy with the idea of wearing it, outfit him in a smaller accessory like an ornate collar or bow tie instead.

6.Be flexible

You cannot always predict how your pet will behave in the given situation. So, be prepared for it if he decides to ditch your plans. Even if you have planned an important role for your pet, like that of the ring bearer, make sure that you have a Plan B, in case he isn’t up for it at the crucial moment. Don’t be disappointed, rather consider yourself lucky if he obliges with your wishes and gets that far without any issues.

shakehand

Now, once you have taken care of the above mentioned factors, let us move on to the different ways in which you can include your furry friend in your wedding.

Ring bearer

The most popular, yet one of the most difficult to implement. If your pet is an obedient, charming fellow who won’t be affected by the change in scenery, and obeys instructions, you can honor him with the role of ring bearer. However, don’t risk any chances by giving him the actual ring. As this article on the Huff Post mentions, it is better that the best man hold the real ring, but your pet carry a faux ring down the aisle, just for the effect. Make sure you get him to practice walking down the aisle with the ring, several times before the actual day, so he isn’t flustered when it is time.

Groomsman or bridesmaid

An extra groomsman is hardly ever a problem, and in fact, it is the perfect role that allows your pet to share the stage with you. Designate a spot for him with the rest of the groomsmen, preferably towards the end of the line, where he can hang out and see the ceremony. If your furry friend is a female, you can have her join the bridesmaids line. Dress up your pet in a tux or skirt, only if he or she is comfortable in the outfit. Otherwise, it is best to add an accessory that doesn’t overwhelm the animal.

Photographs

One of the safest options for your pets to be in the wedding, is to join in your photography session. Outdoor shots with pets are the best, as they usually relax and this allows for great pictures. Make sure your photographer knows that you will have your pet in the photo session, so he can plan the shots accordingly. You can take portrait pictures with your pet, have him in the background, or carrying props like a “just married” sign. In case of unexpected rain or glitches like a muddy outdoor area, analyze whether it is wise to spoil your white wedding dress while posing in the outdoors. You will eventually have to spend more time if you are to get the perfect pictures, when you are posing with your pet.

Cake topper

If your venue doesn’t allow pets, but you still want your beloved friend to be part of the celebration, dedicate the cake topper to him. You can either choose to have one specifically created to resemble your pet, or go for an easily available crystal or glittering topper design in an animal shape.

Display a portrait

If he cannot be there in person, you can have him there in spirit. Blow up a stunning portrait of your pet, and add it to a central location at your venue. Nobody will be complaining about how you forgot him, when you do this. Or, you could even add a family portrait, with the three of you in it. If you want to take it further, create a picture backdrop featuring him, and take your pictures taken there. It will serve as a good-looking keepsake for later.

Pet-stamped stationery

Custom-created photo place cards, table settings or signage can be used to bring your pet’s presence into your wedding, even when he isn’t physically there. The alternative is to use printed stationery with animal silhouettes for an equally striking effect. If you are all into your pet, you can even have him included in the pictures on your save-the-date cards or invitation.

Wedding favors

This is great way to give a little special attention to your pet, and you have so many different options to do it well. Have animal-shaped cookies or candies as edible treats. Animal print or photo key chains are other ideas. Or you can customize the thank you labels with the image of your pet, and tie it to the favors. Another option is to have custom photo wrappers for milk chocolates, with your pet’s picture on the cover.

How to train your pet for your wedding day

bow dog

It goes without saying that you will need to prepare your pet in advance, for his role at your wedding. This is even more important if he has an active role at the wedding. Unless you practice ahead of time, he may shock you with an unpleasant surprise at the time, and you really do not need any more stress to handle on this day!

Here are some tips to help you prepare your furry or feathery friend for your wedding day.

1.Start training early

Rather than wait for the last minute to get your pet in action, it is best to start training him from the time you decide he will be in your wedding. So, if you want him to simply accompany you down the aisle, sit still throughout the ceremony, or even pose with you for your photographs, make sure he receives the necessary training well in advance.

2.Practice, practice, practice

Continuous and consistent practice of what we said earlier is absolutely essential to minimizing hassles on the actual day. First practice alone, then with a few people, and finally with more people. Also try to ease him into the new environment by making him practice in an environment similar to your venue location.

3.Do it in steps

Take it one step at a time, and finally get your pet to learn his entire sequence. So, if he is the ring bearer, train him to walk down the aisle first. Then teach him to hold the basket in his mouth. After he has nailed both, slowly get him to combine the two, so you get the desired result. Similarly, if your pet has to stay on the stage for a long time, help him get used to it by practicing for smaller amounts of time initially, and then slowly increasing the duration to the required length.

4.Use treats to get things done

From when you train them, to the actual day, use treats to ensure they are tempted to do what is expected from them. You can start off with lining down the aisle with treats, or giving him treats for every time they do it right. Then reduce the frequency, so it is easy to manage and he still keeps at it.

Although it isn’t easy to get all pets to get it right, you can still try and see if it will work out. If he obliges, it will be another unique factor that will make your wedding extra-special. If it doesn’t, you still know that you tried, and that is certainly better than not making an attempt at all. In any case, be flexible and don’t be hard on your pet.

Bridal jewelry suggestions for different fashion styles

Once you choose your wedding dress, you are only half-done with dressing up for your wedding day. You still have to choose your hairstyle, makeup and most importantly, the accessories to bring together your overall look.

Just like there are thousands of options in wedding dresses, there are plenty of choices in wedding jewelry too. Finding the right balance in size, structure and impact created by the chosen accessories, is important to fashioning your overall wedding day look. Neither should you go overboard with accessories that it competes with your wedding dress, nor should it be too simple that it doesn’t help you to stand out as a bride.

Here are some tips to keep in mind when choosing your wedding day jewelry.

  • Buy your wedding dress first: We always recommend buying your wedding dress first and then choosing matching accessories, as it is easier to do things in this order. The only exception is if you will be wearing heirloom jewelry or have already spent a fortune on jewelry that will be the signature element in creating your look.
  • Find the right balance: If your wedding dress is simple, choose statement jewelry that enhances your overall look. On the other hand, if you have chosen a richly embellished wedding dress with plenty of detail, opt for simple jewelry so your overall look isn’t cluttered.
  • Choose jewelry that suits your features: Always try on jewelry before you buy it, so you can make sure that it complements your facial features. Certain styles look better than others on different face shapes. So, make sure that the accessories you choose highlights your most attractive features.

Now you know what you should be looking for, when choosing your wedding jewelry.

With more and more brides preferring themed weddings, it is necessary to find jewelry that will contribute to the style they sport on their wedding day. Let us take a look at some inspiring wedding jewelry ideas for the most popular wedding themes we find these days.

1.Boho

This style is non-traditional, bold and vibrant. It is colorful, wild and has an unconventional edge that is both endearing and unusual, and is significantly different from anything traditional. When you are a Boho bride, your wedding dress will usually be dramatic enough. It isn’t necessary to find matching accessories for your wedding dress, as this style allows you to mix and play with entirely different styles to create your own signature look. Here are some ideas.

  • Instantly add style to your look with a unique headpiece that screams out your style statement. Feathers, flower crowns, oversize beaded head pieces and colorful headbands are all suitable for this style.

  • A colorful necklace with a lot of texture, like fabric strips, beads and stones, is a must-have. This will not only add color, it will also be a unique piece.

necklace

  • Prints and patterns appeal to Boho brides immensely, and there are many ways to add these to your ensemble. Consider wearing a earrings with colorful prints to instantly add a pop of color to your face.

earring

  • Unexpected pieces of jewelry like toe rings, anklets or other foot jewelry are an amazing way to make a statement, especially if your wedding dress just skims your ankles and exposes your dainty feet.

Classic

The name says it all—the classic bride prefers timeless trends that never go out of fashion. There is a refined sophistication to this style, and these brides usually have an affinity for pearls and diamonds in simple but stunning designs. Classic wedding dresses feature traditional silhouettes like ball gowns or A-line dresses, with or without sleeves. The makeup is usually quite simple, and the hair is done in simple styles like chignons, buns or simply let down. Here are the jewelry choices that complement this style.

  • The choice of necklace depends on the neckline of the gown. If the dress features an embellished or high neckline, the necklace can be eliminated. If not, these brides usually prefer a string of pearls or a simple necklace with a stone studded pendant. If the bride opts for color, this can be achieved with gemstones like emeralds, rubies or sapphires.
  • While some brides choose large studs and dangling earrings decorated with pearls or stones, others prefer to keep it simple with a single stone stud. Basically, aim to strike the right balance between the earring size and necklace. If the necklace is elaborate, it is best to avoid earrings or stick to simpler ones.

  • Hair accessories like little brooches, scintillating classy headbands or pretty beaded headpieces can be used to dress up your hair in a sophisticated way, especially if you aren’t using much jewelry in the rest of your outfit.

Vintage

Each vintage era has its distinct characteristics, and your jewelry should go well with the era that has inspired your wedding plans. If you are just aiming for an old-fashioned vibe, there are common elements like lace and pearls that suit almost all the styles. Let us take a look at some samples of what accessories would be suitable for a vintage style wedding dress.

  • Pearls and stones are a must-have, and the more elaborate the necklace, better it will match the vintage theme. Strings of pearls, like those featured in this picture, will bring the vintage effect alive in your outfit. If you want more drama, club different sized strings of pearls to come up with your own stylish interpretation of a vintage piece. Else search through your mother or grandmother’s jewelry collection to pick out necklaces that were trendy in their days.

  • Finish off your vintage hair up-do with a vivid headpiece with enough sparkle to make a statement. Whether you choose to place it around your crown, above your bun or as a string on just one side, it is bound to add that finishing touch to the perfect hairstyle.

  • Add a touch of vintage glam to your face with the help of oversize shiny loops in your ear. The more jazzy they look with shiny stones, the better it will be. With a pair as magnificent as in this picture, you can even skip a necklace, as they are absolute showstoppers.

Beach style

There are many brides who would have it no other way, than have their nuptials at the beach. Since these weddings are casual, fun and full of the essence of the sand and sea, their dress and accessories should reflect this tone too. While the wedding dress itself should best feature soft, lightweight, breezy fabric, the jewelry can be loud, with plenty of inspiration drawn from the frolicking waves and blue skies that characterize every beach location. Here are a few ideas.

  • Start with a nautical inspired headband. Here is one with starfish and flowers as blue as the ocean. The best part is that it weaves into the hair seamlessly, so it looks like it is a part of the hairdo. Could it get any better than this?

  • Pearl earrings and studs are perfect for a beach wedding, as these are associated with the ocean. However, if you want a casual look, go with colorful options like corals or shells in your jewelry, and it will look great. These dangling coral earrings are simply perfect to dress up your white attire with a little pop of color, and it is just apt for a beach wedding.

  • To go with your coral earrings, get an equally attractive coral necklace. The bright pop of pinkish orange will instantly color your wedding outfit and make you look like a sea princess, all set to be wed where surf meets turf. This coral necklace has a darker tone, and is perfectly complemented by the blue turquoise beads. The silver pendant adds a vintage touch and gives it a beautiful personality.

  • If there is one wedding where foot jewelry doesn’t look out of place, it has to be a beach wedding. Dress up your pretty feet with beautiful accessories, as you will be trotting through the sand and they will highlight your beautiful feet.

Glamorous

When we think of glamorous, the image that immediately comes to mind is plenty of glitter, sexy outfits and large signature style jewelry. When you choose a dress that has all the elements that make it captivating, you can wear just minimum jewelry to complement it. Take care to not overdo the jewelry, or you can end up looking over-the-top and cluttered. Here are some jewelry options to add a touch of glamour to your wedding day look.

  • If your wedding dress has a strapless neckline, bring on the bling with a loud and bright necklace. Gold is the ideal metal to use, as it instantly adds more glamour to your look. If not, opt for sparkles with gems in your necklace. Consider big motifs and large pendants for a striking finish. If you have a color theme for your wedding, don’t hesitate to consider a necklace with colored gems for that unique touch.

  • If an eye-catching necklace doesn’t appeal to you, choose big, bold earrings instead. If you wear your hair in an up do, draw focus to your face with dangling earrings. Instead, if you leave your hair down, a big stud is a better option as it will not get lost within your tresses. Remember to stick to only one statement piece of jewelry; either the earring or a necklace. If you will be wearing both, keep them small, so you don’t look like you belong in a costume parade.

  • Go bold with a big headpiece if you want to look really glamorous. We think it is most effective when hair pieces are placed on the side of the crown, instead of at the center. If you really want to look glamorous, you can wear a tiara. After all, it isn’t everyday that you can dress up like a princess, and get away with it.
  • Don’t forget that your fingers and arms can also revel in some extra attention. Consider adding a bright, brilliant bracelet to your ensemble, especially if your dress is strapless and you will be showing off your arms. If not a bracelet, then you should consider a big, statement ring for one of your fingers, that will pop with sparkle. Don’t forget to ask your photographer to spare some extra attention to pictures with your bouquets, and your fingers will get all the glory they deserve.

The truth behind 10 winter wedding myths

Winter weddings are growing in popularity, with more and more brides opting for this romantic wedding season. I think these women are really clever, to make the most of this unusual choice to create fond memories.

Planning a wedding in winter shouldn’t be too difficult, if you actually consider it. There are several misconceptions associated with a winter wedding, and this is why many brides don’t even think of the idea.

Let us take a look at some of the most common winter wedding myths that you will most likely hear, if you announce you will be getting married during the coldest time of year. Don’t worry, for we are here to give you the actual facts and tell you if it is indeed something you need to worry about, or just another thing that you let it in one ear and out the other!

1.You cannot choose any wedding dress you want

If you think you should cover yourself up in a full-length, full-sleeve, turtle-neck wedding dress, to keep the cold at bay, you are mistaken. Don’t think too much about the strapless or backless gown that you simply love, just go for it!

The cold is a given factor whether you wear a full-sleeve gown or a sleeveless one. Take a cue from our designer collections for winter and fall. I’m sure you won’t find more than a handful of full-sleeve dresses there. This is because brides love and do wear dresses that expose the neck, shoulders, back and arm. Since you will most likely be having an indoor ceremony in a heated area, you won’t feel cold. And for those valuable outdoor photo moments that you cannot miss, this is the time to add style to your ensemble with a luxurious wrap, stole or jacket. You can view our fantastic collection here.

Shine brighter than any snowflake at your snow-kissed winter wedding with this beautiful Sophia Tolli Mon Cheri wedding gown. The sweetheart neckline adds a touch of romantic to an already ravishing wedding dress design. Check more details about this dress by visiting this link here.

2.Winter weddings are cheaper

Your wedding expenses depend entirely on the type of wedding you have, the number of guests attending and what you choose to have at your wedding. Winter is the off-peak season where weddings are concerned. So, you may be able to get a better rate if you negotiate, or snag a discount that a vendor advertise. You also have a better chance of finding such discounts this time of year, as vendors are more likely to search for clients, and not the reverse. Nevertheless, your wedding expenses will depend on how you plan your wedding. If you go with seasonal fare, choose flowers that are available, and search for the best discounts and deals, you will be able to pull off your wedding on a smaller budget. However, if your wedding menu will have items that are not easily available this time of year, or you want floral décor and bouquets with spring or summer flowers, be prepared to shell out extra.

3.You have limited options in bridesmaids dresses

Just like with wedding dresses, you may quickly assume that your bridesmaids will need full-length dresses that cover the neck and arms. Well, you don’t! The same rules that apply to you, go for your bridesmaids too. Feel free to choose short, sexy dresses, as long as your wedding is in a well-heated venue. They can always accessorize with a warm jacket, wraps or stoles if they have to spend time in the cold outdoors. Additionally, short dresses give them the chance to look stunning and stylish. Enter snow boots or knee-high boots and a cozy Pashmina shawl, and show me one girl who isn’t excited to wear the short dress that you choose for her.

Don’t you think this 8108S from the Alfred Angelo Bridesmaids collection is a delightful dress that your bridesmaids will love to wear? This cocktail length gown with a stunning sheer halter neckline features necklace beading and ends just above the knee. Not only does it look smart and glamorous, it is also a practical choice that your girls will think of reusing after the wedding. Check this bridesmaid dress out at this link to our collection.

4.An outdoor wedding is off-the-cards

Why should you limit yourself to the indoors when there is so much beauty in the landscape outdoors? We say, plan your event outdoors, and live your dream. It will be a memorable and unique event, when you do. All it takes is a little practical planning. You may have to keep your ceremony short, so its over quickly but is just as memorable, and make sure that the outdoor area is well-heated, so nobody feels too cold. I like this idea on The Knot website to arrange for shawls and hot cocoa for your guests. Additionally, inform your guests that you will be having an outdoor ceremony, so they can bundle up in warm woolens and come prepared for your spectacular event. Since winter weather is often tricky and you can’t predict how it will go, it is a good idea to have a backup plan, in case things don’t proceed in your favor on the day.

5.You have limitations when choosing your winter wedding décor

Unless there are budget constraints that restrict you from planning the wedding of your dreams, there is no other reason for a less-than-picturesque winter wedding décor. In fact, winter being closer to the holidays, you have plenty of festive options available than at any other time of the year. Look around the shops during winter and you will see that there are more décor choices than ever before. It is also likely that you will come across sales that you can make the most of. Make the most of the available and hot décor items like candles and baubles. With some creativity, you can easily transform them into any dream design you want, without looking like it was built for Christmas. So, if you aren’t keen on having a snowy winter wonderland wedding, just think of how you can use what is available and customize it to look different, but interesting. And, if you are a fan of snowy landscapes and dancing fairy lights that warm up the wintry scene, you will have no difficulty finding exactly what you want.

6.Most guests won’t look forward to a winter wedding

In our experience, the opposite is usually true. Most guests are bored with attending weddings in spring and summer. However, winter weddings are far fewer, and offer a welcome respite to look forward to, during the cold months. Also, not all your guests are bundled in at home throughout the day. Winter doesn’t prevent them from going to work and school. So, your wedding is just another occasion that they have to attend, despite the cold. Since it will usually be closer to the time when they are planning Christmas and Thanksgiving, it will give them a chance to relax and enjoy themselves at a party that they don’t have to do much at. Also, with the festive season on it’s way, most people are cheerful and happy. This allows them to enjoy your wedding, take part in the fun and return home with cheer.

guest

7.Reduced daylight hours will dampen the party spirit

Not if you set the ambiance at your venue right. It has to be exciting, thrilling and full of party spirit. True that the shorter days may make it necessary to have a short outdoor ceremony. Nevertheless, you can continue the party inside with full pomp and show till late into the night, when you have a venue that is nice, warm and well-lit. The good thing about winter weddings is that it is easy to fashion a warm, glowing atmosphere with plenty of candles and soft yellow lights. It is a double bonus if you have snow; the image is simply spellbinding. If your venue has a roaring fireplace, it would add to the festive atmosphere. Make sure that the venue is properly warmed before the guests arrive, so they can quickly settle in. Activities like dancing and eating will do the rest of the job to heat up the atmosphere, and help everyone enjoy the beautiful event.

bright

8.Your food choices are limited

Just like with décor, your menu choices are only restricted by your budget. Although you may have to spend extra to get items that are off-season, it is possible if you are prepared to pay for it. However, you needn’t worry about a boring menu at all, even if you go with what is seasonally and locally available. Winter has it’s own rich bounty of natural ingredients. All you need is a good caterer, who can whip up a gastronomical feast with what is readily available. The cold weather outside makes this the perfect time to consider hearty family-style comfort food, which will warm palates but not strain your pocket. So, do your research in advance, and plan out your options. Also don’t forget that hot cocoa stations and s’more bars are great ideas that are best executed in winter than in any other season.

food-1082526_640

9.Your photos will not look great

It is actually quite the opposite. If your wedding has light snowfall, imagine how romantic and beautiful your winter wedding photos will be in the outdoors. Although you may have to limit your outdoor shoots to when there is sunlight, indoor photography will not suffer on this account. Just make sure that your photographer has enough experience covering nighttime events, and brings the apparatus required for it. If there is a good flash light, and enough lighting at your venue you can get fabulous shots. Playing with light and shade will also give you some unusually impressive pictures, as well. Remember to tell your photographer in advance, if you want a soft, glowy and dreamy effect in your photos. It would be perfect to capture the winter wedding scenery in such a setting.

10.It is difficult to pull off a colorful palette

Many brides worry that they will have to either settle for a winter wonderland theme or a Christmas inspired palette, to keep it nice and attractive. This isn’t necessary. Warm, bright tones and metallic shades look wonderful in winter wedding palettes. This is the time when you can add bling to your décor to have sparkle and shimmer. Deep jewel tones like sapphire, emerald and berry colors make beautiful color palettes. If you are fond of patterns, you can even use this at your wedding. In fact, choose any color combination and any theme that you want, and find the right balance so you can pull it off successfully. Take a look at this Pinterest board for some glamorous and interesting combinations to inspire your wedding planning.

Fixing the date: The advantages and disadvantages of weddings in each season

Weddings can take place anytime of the year! Today, it is possible to be a winter bride, just as you can be a spring or summer bride. While this flexibility is great for some brides, others may end up being more confused with the availability of more choices.

If you are currently in this situation; having trouble deciding the best time of year to have your wedding, here is some help. Take a look at our list to compare the pros and cons of getting married in any season. Hopefully, this will help you pick the option that is just right for you.

Spring

spring

Now every field is clothed with grass, and every tree with leaves; now the woods put forth their blossoms, and the year assumes its gay attire.”

The Roman poet, Virgil captures the essence of spring in the above quote. Spring is a season to rejoice, and nature shows us how to. As Mother Nature marks this season with welcome warmth after a chilly winter, pops of color begin to appear everywhere. As flowers bloom and the green grass sprouts in bounty, the air feels fresh and alive. Associated with fresh scents, cool weather and beautiful natural backdrops, many couples find spring the best season to get married. So, here are the advantages and disadvantages of picking a date in this season, for your wedding.

Advantages

  • Just the right temperature: Neither is spring stifling and warm like summer, nor chilly like autumn or winter. The temperature is just perfect to relax and enjoy. So, your guests will look forward to attending a ceremony and not complain about making the trek in bad weather. Plus, the right temperature makes it possible to plan an outdoor wedding
  • Season when colors pop: Take the cue from nature itself. Spring is when fresh buds bloom and create a cascade of beautiful colors in the natural landscape. The lush greenery makes it the right time to plan an equally colorful, warm wedding. So, if you must have bright colors at your wedding, this is the season to choose.
  • Plenty of flowers to choose from: A stunning variety of flowers blossom in spring, making it easy for you to find flowers of every color and texture for your wedding décor, bouquets and more.
  • The season for most vegetables and fruits: If you want to make the most of seasonally available bounty for your wedding, spring is the right choice. This is when most vegetables and fruits are easily available. This will allow you to plan a menu that you fancy, without having to search or arrange for the ingredients at extra cost.

Disadvantages

  • Allergy season is on: With most flowers in bloom, this is the time when allergies are at their worst. Guests with allergies may prefer to stay away from your wedding, especially if it is an outdoor affair, for health reasons.
  • Prices are highest: Since most couples prefer to be married in spring, this is the time when you will be spending most on wedding expenses. Venues will be priced higher during this peak season, so you can either shell out more for your dream venue or settle for a weekday wedding to get a better price.
  • Higher competition for vendors: Just as the prices go up, so does the demand for quality wedding services. Since most vendors can cater to only limited number of weddings at a time, your will have to book your wedding services early to ensure you get the ones you prefer.
  • More holidays this time of the year: Easter and school graduation happens in spring. So, if your guests have holiday plans or other events to attend at the same time, they may be unable to make it to your wedding. Nevertheless, you can always plan your wedding, adjusting for dates that do not clash with these holidays.

Summer

summer

I almost wish we were butterflies and liv’d but three summer days – three such days with you I could fill with more delight than fifty common years could ever contain.”

John Keats wrote these mesmerizing lines for his beloved Fanny Brawne, and it conveys romance, excitement and joy; all that is Summer!

After spring, summer is the next most popular wedding season. Although the weather is usually warmer than in spring, in some parts of the world, this is better as it makes the climate very pleasant. Summer is also the best time to plan a destination wedding. The days become longer and you have plenty of time to party. This makes it perfect for an exciting, fun occasion. Let us look at the pros and cons of this season, for your wedding.

Advantages

  • Flowers still in season: Come summer, and you still have plenty of flowers to choose from. So, you needn’t compromise on having a spectacular bouquet or plenty of floral elements in your décor.
  • You can have a long wedding day: The best thing about summer is that with extended daylight hours, you have plenty of time to party. You could even plan the ceremony later in the day than would be necessary in any other season, if needed.
  • It is holiday season: Summer is the season when schools close for holidays, people take time off work and enjoy a break. So, it is usually convenient, especially for those who have to travel from far for your wedding.
  • Everything is saturated with color: Just as the sun shines brightest, everything in summer looks vibrant and colorful. This is the perfect ambiance for a wedding where you want lots of natural color.
  • Outdoor weddings are still possible: Unless the place you stay is unbearably hot, it is possible to have the outdoor wedding you always wanted.
  • Perfect time for a beach wedding or destination wedding: If you always wanted to get married in an exotic location like a beach in the Bahamas, summer is when you should plan it, to enjoy the best experience.

Disadvantages:

  • Your wedding may clash with your guests’ holiday plans: Like two sides to a coin, having your wedding during the holidays will be convenient for many. However, there may also be others who have planned a vacation at this time, and it may not be possible to reschedule their plans to accommodate your wedding.
  • Chances for rain: Summer showers are nature’s way of surprising everyone, including to-be-married couples. So, if you have an outdoor wedding, you cannot rule out the possibility of rain. Having a back-up plan, like an alternate venue in case of rain, can turn out to be expensive, but necessary.
  • Extra precautions to stay and keep things fresh: When the temperatures soar, flowers wilt quickly and people tend to look tired sooner. From choosing hardy flowers and wearing water-proof makeup, you will have to take more precautions when you get married in summer.
  • The competition for venues and vendors continues: Just like spring, summer is also popular wedding season. So, the competition for quality vendors and great venues continues. The prices are also quite high this time of year, for the same reason.

Autumn

autumn

Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower”—Albert Camus

When the leaves turn color, and the scenery is breathtakingly beautiful with orange, brown and red tones everywhere, when the breeze begins to blow and beckon snow, Autumn is here!

The backdrop of autumn is spectacular, and romantic, making it a great time to get married. Nowadays, autumn weddings are very popular. Temperatures dip, but it is still comfortable. So, weddings in this season are convenient and pleasant.

Advantages:

  • Beautiful nature: The stunning foliage that is fall’s own feature, punctuates the air with romance. This backdrop is unique, perhaps, even more than spring. The refined sophistication of nature during this season makes it a wonderful time for an elegant, classic wedding.
  • Pleasant weather: The weather is comfortable and pleasant during the first half of autumn, making it easy for people to travel or even attend an outdoor wedding if that is what you have planned.
  • A variety of menu options: Fall is associated with pumpkins, squashes, spices like cinnamon, chocolate, apples and berries. These are all treats for the taste buds, and comforting when served at meals. So, hearty meals at your wedding couldn’t get better, than in this season.
  • Interesting décor options: With the scenery so beautiful, it would be a shame to not incorporate the signature elements of fall into your wedding day. Turn to nature itself, and you have plenty of inspiration to set up magnificent centerpieces and attractive décor at your venue.

Disadvantages:

  • Unexpected frost: Autumn is often unpredictable, with some days too chilly to even step outdoors. There is also the risk of frost. So, this can be a damper for your wedding plans.
  • Not holiday season: With the holiday season approaching, people are busy at work and school this time of year. So, it may not be convenient for all guests to make it to your wedding, especially those who have to travel from out-of-town.
  • You will need an indoor venue: Although an outdoor ceremony is possible in fall, dancing into the night may be a problem as temperatures fall drastically, after sunset. So, you’ll have to either find a venue where you can have the rest of the reception indoors, or settle for an indoor venue for the whole function.

Winter

winter

“The color of springtime is in the flowers. The color of winter is in the imagination.” – Terri Guillemets

There was a time when winter weddings were rare. It is not so much now! The cold season is perhaps the most romantic, as this is the time everyone yearns to cozy up and feel warm and loved. Isn’t that just perfect for a wedding?

Advantages

  • Have a memorable wedding: With fewer couples tying the knot in the cold months, it is the best time to plan a memorable wedding that everyone will remember. The scenery is amazing. Not only will your vendors work at a more relaxed pace, you have better chances of getting all that you need to plan your big day, without much competition from other couples.
  • Everything is cheaper and available: Being the off-season, you will not face much trouble getting the venue you desire, or booking vendors you like the most. Also, the prices will be better, as wedding services are ready to slash their prices upon negotiation.
  • Everything will look like it ought to be: With the temperatures being so low, you needn’t worry about your bouquet wilting, or centerpieces looking tired by the end of the day.
  • Most guests can attend: If you plan your wedding around the holidays in winter, like Christmas and Thanksgiving, your guests will find it convenient to attend your wedding. They will mostly be taking time off work or school at this time of year, and so it won’t be a big deal adding your wedding into their holiday plans.

Disadvantages

  • Low temperatures: In this weather, not everyone would be excited about driving to your wedding on a weekend, when they would rather be snug at home. An outdoor wedding is out of question.
  • Shorter days: You will have fewer hours of daylight, and so your wedding would have to be run on a tight schedule, so you can make use of the sunlight while it lasts.
  • Nature’s unpredictability: Unexpected heavy snowfall, blizzards and cold waves are the different ways in which nature can wreak havoc on your carefully thought-out winter plans. It can be very difficult to change plans at short notice.
  • Guests may be on tight budgets: With buying gifts for the holidays and vacationing in summer, your guests may feel the pinch, when getting you a wedding gift or putting aside funds for travel and dressing up to attend your wedding.
