From Dreaming to ‘I Do’: The 7 Emotional Stages of Finding Your Perfect Wedding Dress!

It’s every little girl’s dream to one day step into a Bridal salon and pick out her very own wedding dress. But when that day actually comes (or even if you’ve just watched people pick out their dress on TV), you know it’s not always a cakewalk. Though the “Dress Shopping Experience” is different for every bride, Chantel, founder and wedding blogger of the Y Knot Jump the Broom blog, suggests there are 7 Stages of Wedding Dress shopping that relatively all brides go through:

  1. The Excited Stage

You have all your girls around you and you’re just so excited for the most important day of your life…oh and that you’re getting married too.
  2. The Overwhelmed Stage

    via GIPHY

So many dresses, so little time! How will you ever be able to choose just one?
  3. The Confused Stage

    via GIPHY

Well, you came into the appointment set on buying the A-Line dress you picked out on the store’s website, but now you’re in this beautiful Ballgown that makes you feel like a Fairy Tale princess…and you begin to guess yourself second.
  4. The Discovery Stage

    via GIPHY

You put on The Dress and have your first “Oh my gosh, I think this is the one” moment. You look back at your entourage; some are having a moment too.
  5. The “Mini-breakdown” Stage

    via GIPHY

    Now you’re freaking out because:
    1. You fell in love with the over-budget dress that you just wanted to try on to see what it looked like; and
    2. Mom didn’t tear up when you came out in it.
  6.  The Assurance Stage:

    via GIPHY
After a little deliberation, everyone comes together (and maybe even agree to pitch in for the dress) to show you they not only support you, but want you to have the very best for the happiest day of your life.
  7. The Certainty Stage:

    via GIPHY
After your consultant helps you find the perfect veil, you look at yourself in the mirror. In this moment, you know without a doubt that this isthe One”—this is the dress that you were destined to wear on the day you married who you were destined to love!

Whether you go through all these stages or just a few, know there is no need to fret—your family and friends will support you. You’ll also have great bridal consultants (like the ones at Best For Bride) to help you work through all these stages until you’re as happy and certain about your dress choice as you are with the person you will marry! So keep calm and don’t forget the most important part of dress shopping—to have fun!

5 things you should do to make your out-of-town weddings guests comfortable

It is likely that every wedding will have at least a few guests who travel from far for the ceremony. As a couple, you should appreciate the time, effort and money they spend to be part of your big day. The least you can do is to make sure they are comfortable and enjoy their stay while they are in-town. Here are some simple ways in which you can make their visit worthwhile and easier.

Inform them early

As you may be aware, air ticket charges peak as the date nears. Since your guests will be footing their travel expenses, make sure you notify them of the date well in advance so they have enough time to find a good deal. “Etiquette on Out-of-town Wedding invitations” on Map happy suggests giving four to six months advance notice, as this will allow your guests to research their travel options and plan their trip so that it doesn’t cost them dearly. It would be helpful if you could provide them an itinerary of the various events they have to attend, so they can pack for it accordingly. This would also give them enough time to plan their trip.

Be considerate and do what you can to help them

Your out-of-town guests go through a lot of trouble and spend a lot of money to make it to your wedding day. So, the least you can do is to be considerate and help them with what you can. While you are not responsible for their accommodation, they would find it helpful if you could provide a list of affordable hotels and arrange the bookings on their behalf. If possible, visit them once they are in town or at least call and make sure they have arrived safely and are comfortable. Make sure to mention how you appreciate their presence, as these thoughtful gestures go a long way in making them feel the trip was worth it.

Suggest options so they stay occupied

Unless your wedding itinerary is action-packed with events, your guests will have plenty of free time to themselves. It would be a good idea to provide them suggestions on how they can spend this time. If there are local museums or tourist attractions, recommend them. If they are in town at the time of your rehearsal dinner, consider including them. Assign the responsibility of these guests to one of your bridesmaids or groomsmen, so they have someone to turn to should they require any help.

Small treats go a long way

Arrange for a small bag or basket of treats to welcome your out-of-town guests. You do not have to spend a huge amount on it, but they will appreciate your thoughtful gesture of remembering them when they find a bouquet of flowers or a box of chocolates in their hotel room. After your wedding day, don’t forget to send them a thank you note. Besides thanking them for their gift, specifically mention how pleased you were to have them at your wedding.

Things to know when planning a backyard wedding

The intimacy of a wedding held in your own backyard is unbeatable. Not only is the environment homely, it is joyful.

garden-550991_1280

Although backyard weddings were initially chosen for vow renewals, now more and more first-time marriages are also choosing this option, for various reasons. Some of these include

  • getting married on any day of the year.
  • not worrying about a venue being available, or battling other couples to get bookings for a particular day
  • saving the extra cash required for a wedding venue
  • Getting married at the place that is most dear to them

Nevertheless, don’t be fooled into believing that a backyard wedding is easier than one in another location. It isn’t! In fact, it requires more effort and lot of planning. Here are some details to take care of, so your backyard wedding is a hit.

Make sure home improvement work is completed well-ahead of schedule

Your guests will be in and out of your home, throughout the wedding day. So, it is necessary that your house is presentable. This takes time. So plan ahead to take care of any paint jobs, cleaning or repairs, so you are prepared to welcome your guests into your home on your big day.

Prepare for every weather

Backyard weddings are usually done in spring and summer. If you live in an area that is prone to showers, make sure you have a Plan B for such a scenario. Will you have tents put up in any case, or can your house accommodate all the guests, should it rain? Similarly, if the temperature rises too high, do you have fans in the tents?

Take care of pesky little bugs

The last thing you want is your guests complaining of insects crawling over them. Unfortunately, this is a possibility, when you plan your wedding outdoors. Get set for it, by buying bug spray and clearing the area of any potential infestation sites.

Make arrangements for toilets, electricity and water

It is unlikely that the loos in your house will cater to the needs of all the guests at your party. You do not want them your guests to uncomfortably wait in line, all day. Make arrangements for portable toilets. Similarly, rent a generator and make sure your water tanks are full.

Check the legalities

Before you go about planning the wedding at home, check if it is alright to do so. If you need permits or there are space restrictions in your locality, make sure these are taken care of. Also, inform your neighbors of the event. Nice neighbors may even lend their parking space, or offer help.

Consider Your Home Design

The exterior aesthetics of a home provide a visually appealing backdrop that complements the wedding theme and enhances the overall atmosphere. That’s why calculating exterior home design is a crucial aspect when planning a backyard wedding – it sets the tone for the entire event. Whether it’s a rustic countryside affair, a modern and sleek celebration, or a classic and elegant gathering, aligning the backyard wedding with the exterior design creates a harmonious and cohesive experience for guests.

Hire help for before and after

You will need extra hands to get things done on time. The same goes for cleaning up after the wedding. So, plan accordingly and get your help on time. You don’t want to be over-stressed and running around in the chaos, while you should actually be relaxing and enjoying the experience.

Having a backyard wedding may seem fun, but it calls for plenty of organization and keeping cool. Whether you decide to have it, or go with another venue, visit us at Best for Bride for all your wedding shopping needs for the perfect wedding.
