The hottest wedding fashion tips

Just like high street fashion, wedding fashion trends also change year in year out. There is lots of advice available for the bride and the groom on the latest trends and what to wear but what about the rest of the wedding party?  New styles and trends are popping up on the high street all the time and they often make an impression on wedding fashion as well.  Some weddings will have a theme or a dress code to help to guide you, but even when they do it’s hard to keep up with how to make sure your outfit fits the theme but is still in trend.  If you need some ideas on what to wear on the big day then look no further than our wedding fashion guide.

Parents of the Bride or Groom

The parents of the bride and groom usually get quite a free reign on what they wear to the wedding.  If there’s a theme or dress code then make sure you adhere to it when choosing your outfit.  The mothers of the bride and groom should think timeless elegance when shopping for the perfect oufit.  There’s a fine line between demure and frumpy, make sure you’re getting it just right.  Make sure that if you’re wearing a dress or skirt that it’s just the right length, knee length at the shortest is most suitable.  This season mother of the brides will be most on trend if they go for a simple, single coloured dress, skirt and top or trousers and top combination in pastels or neutrals.  Subtle florals, ruching and pleats and a touch of lace are also popular with designer wedding fashion trends and will look great on the mother of the bride or groom. Popular designer John Charles mother of the bride collection ticks all the boxes for being on trend.

The fathers of the bride and groom should go wearing either a tuxedo or a smart suit, they shouldn’t be wearing identical outfits to the groomsmen, but it is best to try to fit in with the style or theme of the groomsmen.  If the groomsmen are all wearing black suits, white shirts and purple ties then the fathers of the bride and groom should preferably also wear a black suit but then choose whatever coloured under shirt, tie and other accessories that they feel comfortable in.

Groomsmen

The groomsmen are usually all dressed in the same or similar outfits.  The contemporary black tie get-up is a timeless classic with either a tie or a bow tie.  Three piece suits are also popular and provide something a bit different from the classic black tie look.  Three piece suits are popularly given a modern twist with a skinny tie.  Popular colours are pastel summery candy hues like mint, baby blue, peach, aqua and gold.  Add a splash of colour to a classic three piece suit with a pastel shirt or a subtle pastel floral print shirt for a summertime wedding (we said subtle, don’t turn up dressed like Laurence Llewelyn Bowen).  Vintage style brogues are on trend for 2013, add a twist to your outfit with two-tone or patent vintage brogues.

Bridesmaids

As mentioned in groomsmen trends, pastel summery candy hues especially mint green are hot this year. Another colour trend this year that bridesmaids would look great in is ombre graduating shades of the same colour.  Either an ombre style dress or perhaps each bridesmaid could wear a different shade of the same colour from dark to light. Flattering draped Grecian style dresses, one shouldered dresses, peplum dresses and dresses with illusion necklines are also popular trends for bridesmaids.  Lace is also still in trend, teem lace with pastel hues for a beautifully soft, feminine vintage style.

Flower Girls and Page Boys

Flower girls and page boys’ outfits are often in theme with the rest of the wedding party.  In trend for flower girls in 2013 are loose bohemian style white and pastel dresses teemed with hippie-esque flower headpieces and loose wavy hair.  Romantic styled Peter Pan collars and flower appliqués are popular in children’s wedding fashion designer Nicki Macfarlane’s The Swan Collection and also Oscar de la Renta’s children’s Collection.  Monsoon and John Lewis have some lovely flower girl and page boy outfits at high street prices.  Page boys can be in trend this year with pastel coloured shirts, pale grey waistcoats and smart matching trousers and tie or bow tie.

Five alternative wedding reception venues

Wedding receptions play a huge role in the success of any wedding. Receptions give the bride and groom to wind down, talk to guests and really enjoy themselves. When planning weddings, couples will normally opt for the usual venues including hotels, golf courses, bars and restaurants. Often overlooking alternative venues many newlyweds are missing out on the opportunity to wow guests and make their special day memorable for all the right reasons. To give some inspiration here are five great “alternative” wedding reception venues.

Museums

Museums provide an ambience like no other, steeped in atmosphere museums will provide a cultured yet fun wedding reception. For many years now the museums of London has been offering newlyweds the opportunity to host their reception in the heart of the museum. Located in the centre of the London the venue can host a drinks reception for up to 1000 guests and a dinner reception for up to 350 guests. Surrounded by historic artefacts, a museum is a guaranteed way to wow your reception guests.

The Zoo

Ok, so you may think the zoo is a strange location to hold your wedding reception, but one thing is for sure; your guests will have fun. When thinking of zoos you may automatically assume that it will be a muddy and not so glamorous affair, wrong! ZSL London Zoo provides a truly unique wedding reception venue, with elegant and stylish suites that overlook 36 acres of gardens; your guests will be truly blown away. Although London Zoo doesn’t have a license to serve alcohol, never fear, companies like Bars2you have recently popped up, enabling you to have a bar in any venue that suits, so party on!

Lighthouse

If you are looking for a truly unique reception venue a light house will definitely fit the bill, a lighthouse reception will guarantee you with a sea front location, spectacular views and an intimate venue. Situated on the picturesque south coast of Wales, is one of Wales last remaining operational lighthouses, Nash Point. Nash Point is a quaint white washed lighthouse, perfect for small, intimate receptions; the lighthouse has room for up to 25 guests. Don’t miss the boat and book your perfect lighthouse venue today!

Nightclub

A nightclub reception is perfect for the more hedonistic couples out there. Although not to everyone’s taste, a nightclub can be a great location for a wedding reception. The world famous nightclub Ministry of Sound in London has recently started offering wedding receptions at their famous venue. Ministry of Sound can accommodate parties of 100 to 1500, providing both drinks receptions and seated banquets. The venue comprises of 5 rooms which can be booked as a whole or on an individual room basis. A nightclub venue will be sure to keep your guests up all night and give them a night to remember (or not).

Soccer stadium

The assumptions are that those who opt to hold their wedding receptions in soccer stadiums are fans of soccer, but this isn’t always the case. The Millennium Stadium in Cardiff has been offering newlyweds the chance to hold their wedding reception at their iconic stadium for a number of years now.  Located on the banks of the River Taff, The Millennium Stadium is a 72,000 capacity super-stadium. All wedding reception suites overlook the famous pitch and can host dinner receptions for up to 300 guests. Hosting your wedding reception at a soccer stadium will be a sure fire way to score a hit with your guests.

Barcelona has the unique mix of culture, beauty, food and a great nightlife. It is the perfect place to visit for a hen weekend. You can start off during the day seeing the sights such as ‘La Sagrada Familia’, the various example of Gaudi architecture, the Olympic stadium and take a trip on the cable car high above the city. There is a huge choice of restaurants and bars for the evening from traditional Spanish Tapas to Italian and Chinese. Llama Trekking

For an unusual weekend why not try Llama trekking! Yes I being perfectly serious llama trekking is a legitimate hen weekend activity. Unfortunately you don’t get to actually ride them though, you strap bags to the llamas and walk alongside them whilst enjoying an alcoholic beverage or five. It would certainly be an unusual story to tell the children but certainly isn’t for people who enjoy a relaxing weekend.

Cocktail Making

The perfect way of mixing an enjoyable activity with lots of alcohol is cocktail making. Almost any bar worth their salt will have an event like this on if you give them a call. It is lots of fun and the perfect way for you to learn how to make your favourite whether it be a Mojito or a Manhattan. You’ll probably come away from it wanting to buy your own spirits a cocktail shaker to do them at home.

Murder Mystery Weekend

A murder mystery weekend is perhaps the most exciting of all the ideas so long as you make sure it is at a good hotel. In Stratford-upon-Avon there in an excellent hotel next to where Shakespeare was born which really pushes the boat out when it comes to murder mystery weekends, they hire the best actors and have great storylines which you really get involved with. Accommodation and a nice big 4 course meal is all included in the price with plenty of time during the day to do your own thing.
