Jenny & Paul's Exciting Proposal Story

This past summer was probably one of the most amazing, special unbelievable experience that I have yet to encounter. On August 2nd, I have never really pampered myself and so he decided to take me to the spa and get my a manicure and pedicure and he decided to get one with me to keep me company. I didn't really care much if we did anything because to me it was just another day except I got a manicure!! We had already had dinner plans at my parents but during our pedicures to go for dinner instead. My parents originally had made dinner plans with me and then somewhere along the line my sister told me it had been cancelled, my siblings couldn't make it. She had to work late. So I mentioned to Paul that plans had change and so we could just pick a place that said we've always wanted to try every time we drive by it, so we picked one in Little Italy.
We both had just got off of work and so after out little spa date, he went home to shower/change. As he was driving, we talked about going on a vacation because we haven't gone anywhere together and haven't really travelled together before and we've been together for 2 years already. As he was driving, I noticed he was going the opposite direction of the restaurant and was heading towards my house. I could've sworn I told him plans had changed and we weren't doing dinner at my parents anymore, but he kept driving. Turned into a little argument but he kept smiling. We ended up at my house and I said I might as well freshen up to go for dinner since we are already at my house. As I opened the door, my house was filled with friends and family. I had never had a surprise party, let alone, the last time my parents had a birthday dinner for me was probably 16 years ago! It was such a nice feeling! Later that night, I had a few gifts to open, many were stuff for travelling. It never really hit me until Paul pulled me aside and told me he had purchased our trip to Portugal! His family will be meeting us there as well. I had never been to Europe, and it was so exciting! I was also leaving in 12 days! The morning of our departure, Paul had left early in the morning and said he had to get some papers signed by his uncle before he left because it needed to be in a certain date. We left from Ottawa to catch our flight from Montreal. We got to Portugal greeted by his family. That place is beautiful. We had went north of Portugal from where his family was from to celebrate a holiday on the 15th of August. We were traveling from town to town so we left some stuff behind and packed lightly because we were doing a lot of touring. I was packing Paul's stuff and had moved a few things around. I did end up moving his socks, and one happened to be a winter sock. I just thought he wanted it at night or something. The nights would get chilly, especially if we were in the mountains. We were travelling along the coast and after the first week, his family went back to Canada and we stayed a few more days to explore a little more. We had a backpack that had our camera and passports and such. At a point I was carrying the bag and Paul would be the one taking all of the photos. Paul had arranged for us to stay at a hotel outside of Lisbon. We drove up to the hotel and it was up a very steep mountain. It ended up being an old castle that has now been turned into a hotel. It was breathtaking. The view overlooked the ocean, overlooked the city below up and, so high up in the mountain, we were in the clouds! As I was admiring the view, I was standing in a balcony area, that had an ocean front view. Paul had turned me around and he had something behind his back, I honestly that he was scratching. He then told me how beautiful the view was, how much he loved me, how much fun he was having, and everything was absolutely amazing, and he wanted to spend the rest of his life like this. He got down on his knee and said " This is what I want forever, will you marry me?" At this point, it was nearly midnight. I did not see the ring, but I can see him holding something. I just froze. Maybe 30 seconds later I asked him " is this real?!?!?!?!!??" All of a sudden I started to shake. I just jumped on him and hugged him! I still haven't given me an answer yet. I couldn't control it, I was shaking hysterically! He says " ....soo....????" and I said " YES!!! OF COURSE!!!!! OMG I NEED T O PEE!!!!" All of sudden I had an urge, I was so shocked, excited, dancing around, jumping up and down. He was trying to put the ring on my finger and I couldn't stop shaking, he was also taking too long. I got really impatient and super excited I put it on myself! I know, it was bad. I was in such shock and super excited! I was trying to take pictures of the ring to show my family over Facebook and emails. Unfortunately, I was shaking so much none of my pictures were clear. I finally got a picture under all of the lighting in the hotel room. At this point Paul gave up and was tired because I couldn't stop shaking and went to bed. I could not sleep. I automatically got onto Pintrest and started searching for ideas and a dress! At this point, I had taken photos of my ring with: my iPad, my phone, my lap top, my digital camera, Paul's DSLR camera, Paul's phone, and Paul's Portugal cell phone. A total of between 300-345 pictures of just my ring ALONE. Let's be honest here, there were about 60% blurry photos, incorrect lighting, terrible angles, etc. It was hilarious, every time my fiancé would open or go to use a device, the first thing would be my ring. I am the happiest and luckiest girl in the world! We are so excited and would love to share our exciting proposal story with everyone. |
