My fiancé planned a "date day" for the last Sunday in August 2017, and ensured me that the day would be full of great surprises ... he even hinted that we were going to see Bruno Mars!! Gullible as ever, I went with the plan! We left our house around 930am; went to a local Botanical Garden for a walk - he knows I LOVE flowers; drove back to lakeshore where we rented bikes near the lake; and rode to a surprise lunch date at the Drake Hotel, where we first met. There we reminisced about the last two and a half years together and after lunch, we got back onto our bikes to a local park.
We walked through the park, hand in hand and every so often, my then boyfriend (now fiancé) would look at me and tell me how beautiful I looked, especially for today. I still didn't clue in for what was waiting for me moments later at the top of hill. At the top of the hill, a beautiful spread of flowers on a fuzzy blanket and champagne awaited us. I immediately got giddy and you can say that we definitely had a 'moment' where the whole world stopped, and it was just us two. After we toasted to another great summer together and the love that we shared, he told me to close my eyes. He returned back with a red picnic basket and told me to open it up. Inside the picnic basket, I pulled out the most adorable little puppy. My fiancé and I talked about getting a dog later in life as our other beloved golden retriever passed four long months ago and our little family felt incomplete. He named her Penny as we discussed previously and had the cutest personalized collar made for her. I was so mesmerized and smitten by Penny, I failed to realize that there was another surprise in the basket. Joe told me to stand up, and on one knee with Penny on his lap, he asked me to be his wife. I of course said YES!! After all the excitement, I realized that my best friend, her boyfriend and his brother had helped him arrange the proposal and took these cute pictures. Finally, my last surprise for the day, was seeing our closest family and friends for a celebratory picnic in the park! IT WAS ABSOLUTELY PAWFECT! <3 |
