Justin and Naomi Engagement in Old City of Jerusalem

Justin's side:
Both of us had been talking about marriage for about 2 months, and I'd asked Naomi to begin looking at rings and then tell me what she wanted and I would buy it separately because I wanted the first time that we saw the ring together to be when I was asking her to marry me.
Naomi left for Israel for a 10 day touring trip. I had the idea that it would be amazing if I could fly over to Israel and surprise her and ask her to marry me. I had a lot of doubt that this would actually happen because plane tickets were incredibly expensive. But I was determined to try every and any option I could to get to Israel. A massive door opened for me to get over there and I was escorted over there by a flight attendant friend FIRST CLASS. It was amazing! Once I arrived in Israel I contacted Naomi's sister who was on the trip with her whom I'd been communicating with. We planned out how I was going to ask her to marry me the following morning on the Mount of Olives. One more thing that I did was give Naomi's sister and brother in law a 7 of hearts (playing card) to give to Naomi the following morning. That's significant and will be explained here in a moment .... Naomi's side: Saturday November 28th came and I woke up planning on it being my last day of touring Israel with my sister and the team. We had plans to go to the Mount of Olives, Garden of Gethsemane and several other places around that area. It was just a normal day for me and I packed up all my bags in preparation to fly back to the US that evening. We all got in our taxis and made our way up the Mount of Olives and arrived at our destination the "Seven Arches Hotel". We all got out and then my sister Liz told me that we had to go down the hill to this place that we had taken a picture several years earlier (both of us actually had lived in Israel for a season). I said, "I don't remember taking a picture down there at all?" She said, "Yes, of course we did, you just don't remember." A little history before I continue the story: about 6 months before Justin and I started dating I was going to a restaurant with a girlfriend of mine where they give you a playing card to identify your order instead of a number. As I was walking into the restaurant I had been telling my friend how "I think Justin Rizzo likes me!" I secretly said in my heart, "If I'm supposed to marry Justin then have the cashier give me the 7 of hearts for my order identification." Sure enough after I ordered she handed me the 7 of hearts!" I told Justin this story about a year ago ... and he remembered .... ...Back to the Mount of Olives ... Me, my sister Liz and her husband Ben left the rest of the group and started down the hill together. All of the sudden Ben hands me a 7 of hearts and says, "Oh, I found this and wanted to give it to you." I was like, "Ok, weird." I didn't really think too much of it until about half way down the hill my sister Liz handed me another 7 of hearts! She said, "Oh I found this and wanted to give it to you." After the second card I was really suspicious that something was going on. But I wouldn't let myself believe that Justin was actually here. Justin's side Waiting at the bottom of that hill was horrible on my emotions! I had flown 12 hours across the ocean to surprise my girlfriend in Israel and ask her to marry me. There was such (good) tension in the waiting! I was hiding behind a cement wall doorway out of sight of Naomi as she headed down the hill. I had recruited a friend of mine in Israel who Naomi didn't know to lead Ben and Liz with Naomi down the hill to where I was. I had also given my friend a 7 of hearts to give to her. So near the bottom of the hill he turns around and approaches Naomi as a perfect stranger and hands her the card and walks away. Naomi is really sharp so I knew she would know after the 7 of hearts were given to her that something was up and all that was left for me to do now was to step out and surprise her! Naomi's side: As we were at the bottom of the hill I was now persistently asking my sister Liz, "What's going on!? Is he here!?" Liz kept responding with "I don't know what you're talking about!" Justin's side: At that point I stepped out from where I was hiding and we saw each other! She was very shocked that I was there to say the least!! I got down on one knee at on the Mount of Olives overlooking the Old City of Jerusalem and asked her to marry me! She responded with a "yes"! We spent that day touring Israel with her group and then went to dinner that evening and then spent the next 4 days touring Israel together. It was a very special time and an awesome way to begin our journey together unto marriage! www.justinandnaomi.com |
