We got engaged on September 6th, 2016 in Paris, France! It was the second day of our Europe trip and we were walking around Paris on that sunny Tuesday morning. We started the day walking along the Champs-Élysées. We checked out the shops, stopped for a coffee and croissant then headed towards the Ferris wheel. I didn't even know Paris had a Ferris wheel! I said to my then boyfriend, now fiancé, Marco that we should go for a ride! We had not seen the Eiffel Tower yet, so I knew this would be an incredible view of the whole city and I kept saying how romantic it would be. He was hesitant and said okay but let's see how much it is first. We get up to the ticket box and it's only 12 euro each to go on. I said let's do it! Again, saying it would be soooo romantic! He gave in and we went on. We were in awe of the view! When we saw the Eiffel Tower for the first time, I had butterflies. I could not believe we were in Paris! It felt like a dream. I noticed Marco was acting a bit weird and quiet. I turned to him and he was fidgeting in his wallet. He said "do you want me to pay you back for the ticket? How much was it?". I said "no! Don't even worry about that now! Enjoy the view!". It was strange for him to ask me, we never pay each other back for stuff like that, so I was curious what he was trying to do. Then he said "okay well, how about this? Will you marry me?" and with that he pulls out a stunning engagement ring out of his wallet! He had it safety pinned in there so he wouldn't lose it! How cute! I put my hand over my mouth and was in shock. I said "oh my goodness!!! Yes! Yes! A million times yes!" We were so happy and quickly took a shot of us, up in the air, hoping we caught the Eiffel Tower behind us! Luckily we did. We got off the Ferris wheel and I was shaking like a leaf! My legs felt like jello and we couldn't stop smiling. I turned to Marco, kissed him and said "aww, I said oui!!!" and we just started laughing. It was the happiest day of our lives! I only wish I had video to replay that whole moment over and over.
It's even more special to me that he proposed on a Ferris wheel, because six years ago, we took our first picture together on the Ferris wheel in Niagara Falls! I hope you enjoyed our story. |
