Cuba.
A getaway that I thought was booked for completing my final placement in Teacher's college. It all started with the airport security leaving Toronto. We were walking through the metal detectors while our carry-ons were being scanned, I went first and was cleared. Matthew on the other hand had been cleared through the body metal detector but was stopped for a bag check because of a box...the ring! Matthew thought to himself, Great! How romantic is this going to be... proposing in airport security, but the lady had turned and gave Matthew a ,your secret is safe with me , look. We finally arrived in Cuba with no problem at the airport. After a 2 hour drive to the hotel, two room switches for better ocean view, and some food we were ready to start enjoying our trip. Matthew offered to take care of the money, passports and all valuables (the ring!) that belonged in the safe so that I would not have to worry (or snoop). We had just come back from the beach and were getting ready for our all'carte dinner. Alexandrea was ready before Matthew ....I repeat... Alexandrea was ready before Matthew (a rare occurance) and decided to have some fun with the camera on the balcony. After 100 selfies later I decided to sneak up on Matthew and take a picture of him and bug him to hurry up. He was near the safe with a wife-beater on and she snapped a photo SHE thought the dear in headlights look on his face was because she had caught him without a shirt on ...... that was not the case.... HE thought he had been caught, putting the ring in his cargo pocket! (which is what he was doing) As we were walking to dinner we decided to stop at this bridge that overlooked the ocean and take it all in... since we still could not see from out ocean view balcony. He had started talking about how beautiful it was in Cuba and how beautiful I looked and jokingly said "I cant wait to marry you in 5 or 10 years" Sassily I nudged Matthew's arm and said "it better be sooner than that" and he said "well what if I did it right now" and pulled out what I thought was his wallet like he had pretended to do in the past several times.... BUT this time was different. In the middle of this so called wallet there was a light shining down on a sparkly diamond ring that I had pinned on Pinterest and shown Matthew a zillion times! It was HER ring! He had dropped to one knee... forgetting to officially pop the question and said that he loved me so much and if she would like to put it on! With an enormous wave of emotions from annoyed and confused, to happy, shocked, excited and love it was NOW official ... I would finally get to marry my best friend and become MRS. PURPLE. |
