Dylan and I have known each other since I was 4 and he was 7, we've been together for 2.5 years now and since the day he asked me to be his girlfriend, I knew he was the one I wanted to marry. He's never made me second guess.
This past chirstmas holidays, we decided we wanted to go somewhere over the holidays since we never really do much in the winter, and we both had the same time off. We booked 2 nights at the Clarion, a spa resort hotel. We woke up the first morning and there was 2 feet of snow. The plows haven't been out and we were snowed in. An hour later we were able to leave and he said he really wanted to go see the falls and walk some trails - which is weird because he doesn't normally suggest to do that - but everywhere we drove to hadn't been plowed out yet and there were cars in the ditches everywhere. We got out of the car once and tried walking down a trail to the end of a dock because I wanted to see the lighthouse, but as soon as we crossed the street we both laughed at each other and said "this is not happening", so we went back to the car. We drove around and explored for an hour and then back to the hotel. We made a reservastion at a beautiful restaurant, and that's where he asked. I called and booked the reservation while Dylan said he was going to get us ice for our drinks. But he was calling the restaurant as well to plan his proposal. He helped picked out my dress and reminded me how much he loves my hair curly when deciding on how I'd wear it. We got to the restaurant and had an amazing dinner. The waitress came around and dropped off two dessert menus. I proceded to open mine, the first page was all tea's and coffee's, I flipped the page over and saw nothing but a couple words on the sheet so I flipped back without reading them, I looked at Dylan and said "this can't be right, they don't have real desserts"... He laughed and before he could answer, I flipped the page and thats where I read "Thank you for coming" well that's what I thought I was reading... I just stared at the page and then it hit me like a brick. I was reading "will you marry me?". I froze and looked up at him and he had the biggest smile. I looked back down to make sure I was actually reading it properly, and could not believe it when I looked up and he was on one knee. The happy tears made it so hard to talk and he smiled and said "so, will you?". I thought I screamed yes because it was the only way I could get my words out, but apparently I just kept nodding and whispering yes, haha. It was the best surprise I have ever had. The date has not been set yet, but 2017 sounds like it will be a great year for us. |
