Kyle and I met almost 5 years ago in high school. What started as a friendship quickly became my first real relationship. Having Kyle to be a best friend, a giggle partner, and the one person to bring out the best in me is something I always cherish. Along the way, a surprise came - our son, Carter. And becoming parents at a young age was something that others thought would destroy our lives. Well, we pulled together and grew together - not just as boyfriend and girlfriend anymore, but we earned the titles "mom," "dad," and "full-time students." And more love bloomed within us and our son.
Then, last February on the eve of my birthday, I went out for dinner with my cousin. When I returned home, all the lights were off and it was super quiet. I slowly went up the stairs and walked towards my room. Through the open doorway, I saw my candle-lit bedroom - and in the middle of it was Kyle on one knee and on his knee was Carter! As I came closer, Kyle nudged Carter who said, "Marry Daddy!" in his sweet little voice. Of course, happy tears and hugs and kisses ensued while Kyle and I had a lovely moment. He told me he loved me and wanted to spend forever with me... to which I said a big, fat "yes!" It was the best way I could have imagined our proposal, an intimate and meaningful moment that Carter was a part of. I cannot wait to spend my forever with Kyle, the person who makes my heart dance everyday. Life sure has blessed us with some amazing surprises! |
