Shannon & Matt very Creative and Romantic Engagement Story with a Beautiful Proposal

We laughingly say that I bought him when people ask us how Matt and I met because Matt is a diversity speaker in the college market and I was working as a programming coordinator at a university and had hired him to speak to my students. We hit it off immediately when he arrived on campus and our relationship has continued to grow and flourish ever since!
Matt surprised me with a trip to Chicago- our favorite city. We spent the morning enjoying the museum of modern art and then planned to go to dinner followed by enjoying a show performed by the River North Dance Company. We had some free time to fill in the afternoon after going to the museum and so I asked if we could visit my favorite store in Chicago- The Golden Triangle. Knowing me well, Matt had anticipated that I would ask to visit the antique store and the previous week had delivered a cryptex (a cylindrical vault-like in the Davinci Code) which he had contracted the artist who made the cryptex for the Davinci Code movie to make for me. Matt let the staff of The Golden Triangle in on his plan and told them that we would be stopping by on Feb 12th in the afternoon and arranged for the staff to display the cryptex as if it were for sale. I noticed it immediately when we were walking around the store that afternoon. I was playing around with it putting in a number of seven letter words as I attempted to open it and then, thinking that I would give up, I put my own name in for giggles and it opened! The combination is my name- Shannon. Inside was a engagement ring on a stick of rock candy (which I love) and a jade frog which symbolizes luck and return (because Matt always returns to me after he is on the road for work). The brass inner tube of the cryptex was laser engraved with Matt's proposal. "Dearest Shannon, thank your for buying me. It was the best thing to ever happen to me. I would just ask that you would be willing to play in the snow with me for the rest of our lives. Will you be my wife? Love Matt." (One of our favorite things to do is sit outside in front of a fire and make s'mores after it has snowed. We're even having a s'more bar at our wedding reception!) I of course said YES! with tears of joy in my eyes. We're very excited about spending the rest of our lives together and very thankful for all of the well wishes and congratulations from our wonderful friends and loved ones! |
