We met four years ago thanks to my best friend Rachel and her birthday. Our journey started when we climbed a mountain on our first date. Then we embarked on a crazy adventure that lasted years. After a while, we broke up. We moved to separate continents and started new lives. Then we started talking again, and realised we still wanted to be friends. The conversations became longer and more frequent as we fell in love again. When he came to visit me in Korea in December, it was like no time had passed and nothing had changed. We spent the weekend together and everything between us was better than it had ever been before. There was an honesty and cooperation that we never had before. That Sunday, we went to a temple and climbed a mountain for old times' sake. We were at the top eating lunch and laughing about old times when he told me that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. He said he loved me and I was his best friend, and there was no one else he would rather wake up next to or grow old with. That was when he pulled a gum ball ring out of his pocket and asked me to marry him. I laughed and cried and said yes all at the same time. Even though we are still living continents apart, we know in our heart of hearts that we will be best friends forever. Next summer, we hope to get married and begin spending every day together again.
