Belle and Paul - Very Special Engagement Story

Paul and I have been together for the past 8 years. We met online through
www.meetmeinto.com , we had spoken via email and msn messenger. After a
while of talking on Messenger I knew I wanted to meet this guy in person.
My sister had asked me if I wanted to go to Canadian Music Week to see her
boyfriend at the time perform at Lee's Palace (her boyfriends band was
performing) I said yes and I decided to ask Paul if he would like to meet
in person for the first time there. I figured it would be safe to meet
there as I had a whole bunch of friends there with me but I didn't tell
anyone but my sister that I was meeting a guy from a website there. So my
sister and I were standing outside of the venue doors and it felt like a
movie was just beginning. A wave of butterflies started fluttering in my
stomach as I recognized Paul's shaved head as he walked past us to go into
the venue. I told my sister "Woah thats him" and we walked back into the
venue. I walked over to the top corner of the mosh pit, I saw Paul in the
corner of my eye but I wanted him to make the first move. I was making
small talk with my friend Alex while watching the band then lo and behold
I felt a hand on my right elbow, I look quickly and realize it was Paul
and I gave him a hug. I went around to my friends and introduced Paul then
we sat down on a bench along the wall listening to music, talking and
playing thumb wars. By the end of the night I was smitten. After the
goodbyes I was walking with my friends to the car and one of them asked me
"So how long have you and that guy known each other" and I said "We met
online and met for the first time in person today" and my friends were
shocked. "No seriously you two look like you've known each other forever"
and I replied "I know, right, thats cuz he's my future husband". They all
laughed it off but I really did have the feeling that there was something
that just felt so right about this guy.
Our relationship has had its fair share of ups and downs and even one minor breakup but we have learned to grow together as a team. We don't have fights, we have conversations. We are both quiet people and neither of us see the value in yelling so we just talk things out. The day I said yes was about a week after 7th anniversary. I just left my work and walked to my car. When I had settled into the drivers seat I noticed an envelope underneath my windshield wiper. I was so confused, I thought it might have been advertising or something, which would have been a bit strange since my works parking lot is private. I took the envelope out from under my wiper and instantly recognized the writing on the front of the envelope. It said to please open it for the next clue. I instantly had butterflies in my stomach, the letter instructed me to go to the hotel next door and ask the front desk what the next clue is. So I did that, at first the two ladies there looked a little confused for a second and then they realized that they were to ask me for a password (my name), they gave me a key and told me the room number. I opened the door of the hotel room, it was dark, there were flameless candles on the ground creating a path to the jacuzzi. At the end of the path there were chocolate dipped strawberries, champagne and Paul on bended knee holding the Vera Wang ring box, oh did I mention he was naked? (the theory behind his nakedness is that it was symbolic of him offering me his entirety including vulnerabilities). He asked "Belle will you marry me?" I couldn't believe it was finally happening, I was so emotional I said "eeep YES, of course". |
