Carol and I met nearly four years ago, and I took a job with GoPro in April 2014. Naturally I had seen a lot of GoPro videos and watched a lot of YouTube proposal videos, but there wasn't one really great GoPro proposal video. I decided I would fill that gap and ask Carol to marry me on November 22nd, 2014. I created a secret Facebook group and started recruiting friends, coworkers and family members to help make a memorable proposal event. I called the Facebook group The GoProposal. I drafted a storyboard with my terrible drawings to tell everyone how this would go down. I tell people to bring a GoPro camera if they can so we can capture this event from every angle and make a rad video of it.

On the Friday (Nov 21) I told Carol I had to come into the office on Saturday but that she should go to dinner with our friend, Jolene, who is celebrating her ordainment (she's going to marry us) and that I may be able to meet her for dinner. That morning I'm out the door before she even wakes up. I buy a suit, run around town a little more trying to get some people to come to the event (the bigger the crowd the better) and get everyone ready in the park, a block from where Carol will have dinner. Everything is timed to sunset, so the schedule is really strict. I've got a bunch of folks with cameras and even a drone to get some aerial shots.

Carol gets her nails done and they talk longer than usual. The lady doing her nails is in on the secret and she almost blows it because she spends a suspiciously long time doing Carol's ring finger! Carol's late getting to dinner so we have to improvise a bit. She barely has time to sit down and get a glass of wine before everything starts. I've hired a musician to help lead the song so she goes into the restaurant with her guitar and asks Carol to come outside. As soon as Carol steps outside, she finds the sidewalk down the block is lined on both sides with people (many of whom she recognizes. They begin to sing to her the song Question by Rhett Miller (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdM4zNN-PxU). As Carol walks down the aisle of people, the close behind her so by the time she's halfway down the block, she's leading a small mob.

She gets to the end of the block and crosses the street. As soon as she does, the song ends and she sees that I've appeared at the top of a small hill, between two trees with a yellow carpet rolled down for her. There's some white lights between the two trees and a couple large moon and star LED signs a friend made to set the stage a bit more. I help her up the hill to join me between the two trees. Then I tell a short story about how it's appropriate that she's about an hour late for this event since she was also an hour late for our first date! It's all in good fun and everyone enjoys the story. I tell her it's only fair since I made her wait four years to propose so we're even. I then tell her that she's given me so much love, joy, laughter and support and that I can't think of a better way to spend the rest of my life than to spend it with her. I kneel and ask if she'll marry me. She says yes. We get a bunch of cheers from our mob. Carol has a little trouble breathing from all this hoopla, but she survives.

The musician I hired has a little sound system set up across the park and begins playing for us, so we start a little dance party in the park. It was a perfect evening and so much of the plan went so smoothly. Everything just fell into place and I'm happy I could give her a great proposal story that we can tell over and over. I'm editing the video down now and hopefully we'll make GoPro's video of the day.

The video from the event has not yet been edited down. But we're working on making it AMAZING.
