After backpacking and roughing it for nearly a month in Thailand, Eric suggests we spend a night at a resort to relax and unwind, maybe even have a fancy dinner. We scoured the local markets for some clothes to "fit in" (which was near impossible, since Thai women are apparently all XXS size). Eric planned the entire trip, so I was shocked when we arrived at the Andaman White Beach Resort, the only private beach in all of Phuket. As if the beach wasn't beautiful enough, we were led to the nicest private Beachfront Pool Villa and a bed covered in decorations and carefully placed flowers. After a few hours of laying in cabanas and body surfing some waves, the staff seemed to be pretty busy with large bamboo tubes placed at one end of the resort and a heart sculpted into the sand at the other end. I jokingly laughed and said "can we have dinner there?" to which Eric laughed and said "not on my budget!" As we start getting cleaned up for dinner the beautiful sky darkens and the Thailand rain starts beating down hard, and Eric seemed oddly upset over something that had happened everyday for the last week. Finally the rain lets up as the sun is going down, and so we walk through the resort to the dining hall, until Eric says that he must have gone the wrong way because dinner was somewhere else, and heads back towards the beach where now the heart in the sand is surrounded with torches, lights and a fully set table. We sat down and were greeted with a bottle of champagne and rolled parchments that displayed the night's 5 course meal. I was blown away at how incredible the set up was and how amazingly kind and attentive the staff were to making sure dinner was perfect... and it was! Crab, tuna, prawns, steak, plate after plate of the fanciest food I've ever eaten was brought to our table and we ate ourselves into a near food-coma. As we finished our chocolate dessert and the last sips of champagne, Eric said "Did you know the circumference of the Earth is 25,000 miles and over the last couple of years we've travelled over 30,000 miles together? So I can say, that I've been around the world, and you're the best girl I've ever met." Now, this whole time a "resort" photographer is sneaking around taking photos as it supposedly "came with the meal" so we get up from dinner and Eric suggests taking a photo. As we stand there holding hands and smiling he tells me he loves me, and wants to "hold my hand for the rest of his life" and drops to his knee... Suddenly a loud BOOM occurs above my head and makes me look up, and when I'm distracted he pulls a red box from his pocket and when I look down I see him smiling and holding the most beautiful ring I've ever seen. As I say yes and he stands up, 50 of the biggest fireworks I've ever seen start exploding over our heads in the shapes of hearts and flowers. (And when I say loud, these were illegal Chinese fireworks lol) After the fireworks, we walked in the sand and listened as the waves crashed on the beach. It was the most perfect night of my life, and now I have a fiancé and a favorite souvenir from our trip! |
