How we met- I attached a picture from the day we met- April 9, 2012 -as seen
in the class picture. Mark and I both work for a government agency called
DCAA "Defense Contract Audit Agency". We are both auditors and audit
government contracts. I'm a civilian and he's a gunnery sergeant (in the
reserves now) so he works a normal civilian job like me. Our job requires us
to taking training courses at our institute located in Memphis, TN. I work
for the PA office in King of Prussia, PA and Mark works for the Northern NJ
office (right outside of NYC). Ok here's the story. My dad also works for
the agency and was enrolled in a "Forward Pricing Course" down in Memphis,
TN. I wasn't enrolled in this class but a couple weeks before the start date
of the class my office received an email asking if anyone wanted to take
this course as a replacement for someone who had to dropped out. At first I
was like no way am I signing up, I was 26 last year at the time and did not
want to take a week long class with my dad. I thought it be way too awkward.
I joked with my dad about it too.
However, my supervisor ended up calling me in the office about 20 minutes later saying she received a forward pricing audit that needed to get done and she suggested it be good experience for me to take that class. So after that I really had no choice. So I was stuck taking this class with my dad and there was no way out. I was so close to switching to a class two weeks later with an opening but I could see my dad really wanted me to join him, esp since we had to fly out on Easter. So that's when I met Mark! The first day down at breakfast n the hotel lobby I seen him and something just felt weird. I never believed in love at first sight but that's what it felt like. Oh and I forgot to mention, I had just got out of a 9 year relationship (was never engaged or anything). We started dated when we were 16 and just really grew apart and changed a lot. So the last thing I wanted was a relationship. I was ready to enjoy the single life for once. From the hotel the whole class would take a bus to the institute each morning (about a 15 min ride). Everyone in the class was from all over the US (LA, TX, FL, ect...). Mark sat right in front of me and we just clicked so well and would talk like we've known each other for years. He was also getting out of a long relationship. That week I learned a lot about him and also found out the strangest thing! He was also in the class as a replacement for someone who dropped out. Everyone else in that class was enrolled except Mark and I. Another funny thing was that everyone in the class could see our connection and we weren't even making it noticeable. My instructor of the class even kept saying it to us two. Meanwhile my dad was in this class but also got along with Mark so well (see class picture looks like my dad Harry is watching over Mark..haha ). Everything just felt so weird but so right. After that week we would meet up every weekend either in Philly or Northern NJ and go on dates ( hiking, baseball hall of fame (a Phillies and Yankees fan) and fun things like that. Throughout the year we became so close and our job allowed us to spend long weekends together (both working 10 hour days). Two weeks ago we signed a contract for a house (Mark is transferring down my way!!) and got engaged Saturday. But pleases see the pictures for the engagement story.
