April 30th, 2011. It was completely unexpected.
My fiancé is a professional Elvis Tribute Artist. He has his own production company and self-produces his own shows around Ontario. April 30th brought us to Rockland, Ontario, where Pete was going to be doing a show in front of a sold out crowd of 500 people. Rockland is near his home town, outside of Ottawa. It was a day like any other. We got to the theatre, started to prepare for the show, band set up, final ticket counts, and rehearsal. Nothing was out of the ordinary. Pete kept saying how nervous he was, but I just thought it was typical for him ... as it would be for anyone performing on a stage in front of a sold out theatre!! Show time finally came! The stage was lit. The curtain was raised. And Pete stepped out onto that stage. As usual, I am just overwhelmed with emotions that I could be blessed to be with this person. Aside from being an amazing performer, he is an amazing human being. Every time he looks at me, and smiles, while I'm there watching from the side of the stage ... I fall in love with him all over again. This show, however, brought something different. During his last set (the 70's Jumpsuit Elvis), Pete asked me to come out on stage. He had a chair set up next to his piano and asked me to sit there. I complied. I originally thought he just wanted to thank me (like he usually does) ... but it definitely didn't stop there. He announced to the audience that this show brought another significant event, an event that he had never experienced before. He went to his piano bench and took out a small silver box from it. He came back over to me, and got down on one knee. At that point, I knew exactly what was coming ... and the tears began to roll down my face. He told me (and the audience) how much I mean to him, that I'm his best friend, his soul mate, and the person he wants to spend the rest of his life with. (During his speech, a montage of our pictures was being projected on the back screen of the theatre). After, he asked me to marry him. Of course, I said yes! It was also at that point where I discovered that Pete had invited my Aunt, Uncle, 2 cousins, Grandpa, Grandma and close family friends to come to the show to witness the proposal as well. These people travelled from Mississauga and London to be there. It was so special, and meant the world to me, that these individuals who have made an impact in my life were able to be there. After formally proposing, Pete presented me with a dozen red roses and asked me to stay on stage because he had another surprise for me. He went to his piano, began to play and sing 'Unchained Melody' to me while pictures of him and I were being projected onto the back screen of the theatre. It was so beautiful. So magical. So perfect. I was very lucky to have my parents and brother in the audience. My parents filmed the moment, and my brother so kindly uploaded the video to youtube. Here is the link to my proposal video that I would love to share with you. Bride-to-be, Christina Tsirakis |
