MY Wedding Proposal
By Sherylene Leslie Friday December 17, 2010. My day started out as bad as any day could possibly start. A call from my boss of three years - to tell me that the restaurant I'd worked at part time, was closing - effective immediately. All could think of was how much worse could this day get? I am a figure skating coach, and that evening was our annual Holiday Gala show to celebrate the Christmas season. The last thing I felt like doing now, was being happy and cheerful around these children that had worked so hard to show off their newest skating skills! But, because it was the ONLY job I now had, I just had to do my best. The children skated beautifully and I was proud of each of them. Suddenly, just as I was relieved that this day was nearly over, I heard my name announced over the speaker. I was asked to join the skaters on the ice - I assumed it was so that I could be introduced as the director of this year's ice show. I reluctantly skated to center ice. I was pleasantly surprised to be presented with my favourite yellow flowers by two adorable little skaters. Still somewhat confused about why such a big deal was being made about my future director role, I looked up to see a large yellow sign reading "Will You Marry Me" . Shawn was skating towards me with the most beautiful smile on his face. For some unknown reason, my instincts were to skate in the opposite direction. I came to my senses within a couple of seconds, and as I looked around at the approximate 400 spectators sitting in the stands, I realized what was happening. There was the man of my dreams down on one knee, praying that he wasn't going to fall on his face and embarrass both of us. As I accepted his proposal, I realized that this awesome moment in my life was being recorded on video AND witnessed by both of my parents and so many important people in my life. The local newspaper even covered the story - complete with pictures. I have rarely seen my Dad cry - but he sure cried that night!! Shawn had gone out of his way to plan this special event. How could this girl ever consider to NOT marry the man who was so thoughtful to plan his proposal around something I love - figure skating!!! |
