Darren and I met on the popular social dating site plenty of fish, it was I who casted my hook and reeled him in (so to speak). It was not until almost a month of on and off again messaging that we decided to meet up. Our first date was the horror flick "The Crazies" and it was a suitable movie for the both of us because since our first date people think we were crazy for moving so fast. Only a mere few months of seeing each other and experiencing the hardships of the hard recession our relationship was definitely tested due to lack of income from being laid off or not being paid. Some couples would go on breaks until they decided it was a better time to reconnect but not us. We helped each other through the tough times and in turn we have become a stronger couple. Our first engagement took place at the waterfront in Toronto; it was right beneath the cable bridge. The sun was setting and the water was glistening with the rays, the cool breeze created such a romantic environment for the perfect proposal. With only words from his heart and a picture perfect setting Darren asked me to be his wife. Despite the lack of a ring I knew in my heart that this was the man I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. I accepted his proposal and we almost immediately changed our facebook status bringing on many speculations of our friends and family.
It would be 4 months later that Darren would pop the question once again with a ring. We officially got engaged December 18, 2010 at Niagara Falls, most people would deem that area as engagement central but, I believe it's the moment he chose to pop the question that sets us apart from the rest. It was a cold evening as we arrived at the falls, the sun had just set and the clouds were glooming over in partial darkness. Darren had asked me to go on the sky wheel with him and I complied. We got onto booth 5 and enjoyed the scenery, as we slowly approached the very top of the sky wheel we could see all over Niagara, they just turned on the lights to the falls and the view was truly breathtaking. I leaned to the side of the glass to see directly below us as we climbed to the top. As I got up and turned to Darren there he was on the classic bended knee. It was truly a sight to be seen, he held my hand and recited the most romantic poem, and asked me to marry him. It's as if time itself had stopped for that brief moment and coincidentally the sky wheel had stopped turning with us at the very top. With the sparkle of the ring the magic of view and the love of my life on one bended knee, there was no way I could say no to his question. As we disembarked the booth the attendant opening the door noticed the tears in my eyes and the red box on the seat he is officially the first person to congratulate us on our brand new union. |
