October 26th, 2015 was bound to be one of the best days of Collin and I's journey together. To my knowledge, that Sunday would be the day that Collin and I would formally join a church in our city of Louisville, Kentucky. We were so excited to further our journey with Christ. The cherry on top was that Collin was also scheduled to be baptized for the first time. Both of our families were arranged to come to the service in Louisville and witness this exciting time for Collin. My mom had even told me she was most excited about cheering him on. Once Collin was baptized, I was so proud of him and was brought to tears. We met five years ago, and I felt truly honored to have witnessed his journey. Following our joining of the church, we all made arrangements to go out to eat. My mom carpooled with me to the restaurant. As we were driving on the street, she heard a whistling noise coming from my car. We had no idea what it was and decided to pull over. To our surprise, there was a HUMONGOUS screw in my front right tire. Everyone was already headed to the restaurant, and I was freaking out. I had a tire on the back of my truck, but I didn't know how to change it! We called my stepfather who turned around and saved the day in less than 15 minutes. So now we're back en route to the restaurant. My nerves are completely shot, and I'm just ready to eat and take a nap at this point. After we ordered our food, Collin stood up to make a toast and thank our families for coming to support us. He then began thanking me for being his "rock" and encouraging him each day. As the speech went on, Collin started getting more and more personal stating he "was a better man because of Deonna," and that the only way he can "continue to do better in life is if Deonna is by his side." This made me feel so flattered but super uncomfortable because it's not like him to share his feelings in front of so many people! Next thing I knew, he was kneeling and I was immediately brought to tears. I was so floored, I still don't have an image in my mind of him actually being on his knee. He presented me the most beautiful, unique ring I have ever seen. All I could do was utter the words ,"Yes" through tears. A dinner that I thought was for his baptism turned out to be our engagement dinner! There was cake, wine, and the most important people in our lives. There was nothing more I could have asked for. |
