I couldn't wait to see Stephen Friday night! His being in Pittsburgh and my being in Boston makes us miss each other more than usual. He told me a couple of times that he really wanted to go see the movie Exodus, so that was the plan. A few minutes after we met up, I got a phone call asking me to pick a friend up from the airport, which meant Stephen and I had to cancel plans. When I told him, I was convinced he was genuinely upset, but little did I know that the airport pickup was part of his grand scheme to have the movie "fall through" that night. We agreed we would go see it the next morning before our evening plans to attend the New York Philharmonic (his tactic to get me dressed up).
Saturday, when we got to the movie theatre, we walked into a completely empty theatre room. At first I was confused, and then ... I couldn't believe my eyes. A green screen came on that read, "The following Preview has been approved for Veronica Azmy," along with other sweet lines like rated "L" for "Love." I froze, then looked over at him, but he pretended not to know what was happening. Then he came on the screen and I was immediately moved to tears. He wore a suit and held up adorable flashcards he made that told me how much he loves me and how much I mean to him. Then, on the screen started playing the cutest, funniest music video, which he had made entirely from scratch-he wrote the lyrics, created the music, and recorded a full music video! At that point, I was laughing and crying at the same time. I'll never forget how I felt sitting in that theatre holding his hand and watching that video. When it was over, he had me stand up, brought me to the middle of the theatre and read me the most beautiful proposal poem that he had written after our first date almost three years ago! He told me that he knew from the very first day that I'd be the one, and that was why he had written the poem with full assurance that one day he'd use it. He got down on one knee with a banner of dozens of our pictures projected on the screen behind us, a live guitarist playing in the background, and the most dazzling ring I'd ever seen. I was so taken aback he had to take my nod and speechless tears for a resounding "YES!" As if all that wasn't enough, he had orchestrated with the entire theatre staff for fifty of our closest family and friends to funnel through the ramp-way leading to the theatre room we were in. I hadn't suspected a single thing. I didn't think he would propose until at least another few months, and boom, just like that all of our loved ones were in one room celebrating the happiest moment of our lives! He even had photographers and videographers hidden all over the room. The most creative, thoughtful, and moving proposal from the love of my life-I can't wait to marry this wonderful man. Here's to a lifetime more of making beautiful memories together! |
