Saturday, November 23rd started off as any regular Saturday. I woke up and got ready for a shift at work and left Derek at home (he would, supposedly go to work for 12). I was slightly puzzled at the fact that I only had a 3 hr shift that day, but I went and really thought nothing of it. After my shift, I grabbed a tea and went for a walk into the mall, as I often did if I got off work early enough to browse. I wandered by my sister's work and poked my head in, but couldn't find her. I assumed she was on break. While taking my dear sweet time browsing, I received a phone call from my boss asking me to come back because she had to ask me something. So I wandered my way back upstairs. I was looking at my phone as I approached my work and I looked up.
Standing in front of me was our dear friend, Jesse, holding a sign that said, "PICKLES." Then I knew something was up. We sat down and he handed me a letter, which I read. The letter said I would be going to different locations in Kingston, locations which had meaning to both of us. At each location I would find a clue, which would send me to the next location. After I read the letter, Jesse handed me the first clue. Once I figured it out, we walked out to his car. When I got in the passenger seat, Jesse reached into the back seat and pulled out my Christmas sweater, and told me to put it on. The first clue sent us to Lemoine's Point, the conservation area where we took our dog, for his first walk. Curious as to how on earth I would find my riddle in the conservation area, I soon spotted one of my friends at the trail entrance, with our dog. I solved this riddle which lead me to Duncan McArthur Hall, the Faculty of Education building of Queen's University, where we were at the time Teacher Candidates. From here I was led to a Starbucks, our favourite pub on campus, and eventually to Stauffer Library (where we first met). At each location, one of my close friends was there to meet me and provide me with the next level. At the final location, my oldest friend and his wife were there to lead me. I ended up on the second floor of the library in almost the exact same spot where we had met pulling all-nighters for our final fall exams in 2010. And that's where Derek popped the question! He suggested after that we all go to Sir John's Pub (again our favourite pub) to celebrate with our friends. What I didn't know was that he had invited my parents, my sisters (which explained why one of them wasn't at work!), and his parents (who were unable to make it due to weather) to meet us at the pub! To top it all of, he hired a photographer to capture the entire library proposal! PS. Quick backstory on how we met is here! - http://www.thestar.com/life/2011/03/07/students_like_likealittle_a_lot.html |
