Jonathan and I started dating almost 3 years ago, but we've known eachother since I was 15. He is an artist and played a show at my school. The minute he walked on stage I knew one way or another I just had to meet him. We met casually through mutual friends , then Jon moved away to Alberta. When he came home we ran into eachother when he was playing another show. I called him the next day, and after one date I knew.. we were in this for the long-haul. Jon proposed December 12th 2009, here is our story. It was a Saturday morning and as usual, I was running late for work. Jonathan called me to make sure I was awake and on my way and thank goodness he did or else I probably would have slept in. When I finally got to work, my boss was already there and I said aloud "All I can say is, thank God I have Jon" she smiles and as if he were on cue, walks out from hiding. I was so confused, and happy. Turns out he had arranged that I have the weekend off. Because it was so close to Christmas, I just thought it was an early Christmas gift, but he handed me a gift bag. Inside the giftbag was a beautiful dress that he hand-picked with one of my best friends. I smiled and started to ask questions, but he told me to put the dress back in the bag because I had a nail appointment in 20 minutes. So he took me to get pampered for a while then took me home to pack an overnight bag. (I still didn't know where we were going so he did most of the packing). About 10 minutes away, he told me we were spending the night at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto, ON. The whole hotel was decorated for Christmas and for those of you who know Fairmont's, you know, it was AMAZING. Decorated floor to ceiling in elegant ornaments and lights. He had booked us a room on the 17th floor so once we had settled in, Jon suggested we take a walk around the hotel. When we got back to the room, there was a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries painted like tuxedos. We indulged while we got ready for an amazing dinner at a restaurant inside the hotel. Jon had been there a month before to select a table that he thought was perfect. Every table had a pointsettia centrepiece but Jon had ours replaced with lillies since those are my favorite. After the most delicious meal i've ever had, we headed to the gorgeous in-hotel lounge, called the Library bar. They were having an event called "acoustic in the dark" so the whole lounge was lit by candle light. Jon had handpicked a private table on the top level so that we could look over the whole place. As soon as we sat down, he had arranged for our favorite drinks to come out. After about 30 minutes, one of the hotel managers came to ask us if we wanted a private tour of the executive floor, which of course WE DID!!! When we got up to the 19th floor i was amazed. Every part of this room looked like it was worth a million dollars. She left us alone, so we took advantage. We looked through each of the tall windows and took in the view, which was incredible. After a minute, I sat down on one of the chairs in the sitting area and Jon sat across from me on the couch. He started talking to me, and telling me everything about us that he loved. Halfway through, he got down on one knee, grabbed my hands, pulled out the ring and said "I have to have you forever, Will you marry me?" Tears came to my eyes immediately, and the first thing that came out of my mouth was "Really?" and he said "OF COURSE now is that a yes?" And after 8 months of planning, it's still a yes, every day. | |
