As Mother of the Bride What should You Wear?

As Mother of the Bride What should You Wear?

You’re just as excited about the big day as the bride. This will be one of the most important days of your life as well as your daughter’s, and you’ll want to look your best.

The Mother of The Bride plays an important role and even though the bride is the star, there is one person everyone will watch – the Mother of The Bride. At your daughter’s wedding day, you will be on show so choosing your outfit is vitally important. There are a number of things to keep in mind when choosing your outfit here are a few tips to help you find the perfect outfit.

Wedding Etiquette

Wearing white or cream is absolutely out of the question, unless the bride requests it, or is wearing a coloured wedding dress. Likewise, as Mother of The Bride, anything too revealing would be considered a little tasteless. Red is also considered a no no as it is too eye catching.

Co-ordinate the wedding party

You are part of the wedding party, and a coordinated look will work better for photographs and the overall colour scheme of the wedding, than a colour and style completely at odds with the bride and bridesmaids.

Don’t forget to check with the Mother of the Groom. Imagine if you wore the same outfit!

Be Comfortable

As Mother of The Bride you’ll on your feet for a large part of the day as well as attending the ceremony. By the end of the reception you will have been busy for many hours. So, you need an outfit – especially shoes! – that feel good as well as look great. Don’t wear an ill fitting outfit it is always better to concentrate on FIT rather than get hung up on SIZE. An outfit that is too tight will be really uncomfortable by the end of the evening and will never be as flattering as one that is well fitting and correctly sized.

Before making a final decision on your outfit consult your daughter, and let the Mother of The Groom know what you plan to wear.

Formality

Consider how formal the wedding will be. A black-tie wedding may need full-length gown – a pretty, summer dress may be ideal for a beach wedding. If the wedding is a formal affair a suit with match hat, bag and gloves always looks elegant.

Style

Choose a style to suit your figure type. You can disguise many figure faults if you wear a a garment that fits properly and flatters your figure type.

Color

Find a colour that blends with the rest of the wedding party – you will be in the photos. Avoid white, cream, red and black.

Fabric

Unless your daughter is having a beach wedding a solid colour will photograph better than a print. If you want a patterned fabric try something with a self pattern.

Wanda Arnold’s website www.weddingsdresses.tv will help you find your perfect Mother of The Bride Outfit and buy it online. Helpful tips and information for choosing fabrics and styles that suit you and flatter your figure type. You can see site reviews and link to online stores.

The Size Factor and All Sizes Bridesmaid Dresses

It’s an exhausting emotional roller coaster ride struggling to lose weight or mustering enough feminine curves before the wedding day just to squeeze into the best of the bridesmaid dresses. Why go through all these trouble when there are all-sizes dresses and gowns for bridesmaids?

Choosing Your Bridesmaid Dress

Whatever your size and body shape, there are heaps of bridesmaid dresses galore to choose from. These dresses come in various sizes to fit petite, small, medium, large, and extra-large frames. The designs and colors are also intended to hide body flaws and enhance physical assets so Instead of punishing yourself with that awful water-and-bread diet, choose a dress that fits perfectly with an extra inch or two just in case.

bridesmaid dress

In most cases, the bride decides the dress color for ‘ladies-in-waiting’ but agrees that her bridesmaids choose the dress design, especially if the bridesmaids are footing the bill. If it is possible that the bridesmaids shop together; it is financially advantageous for everyone because bridal salons give away a whooping 10 percent discount for an order of four or more dresses.

In the final stages of choosing bridesmaid dresses, you still to oscillate between pastels and bold colors, floor length evening dresses and shorter cocktail dresses, strapless and backless creations. Finally you are down to three top picks. The rule of thumb is always choosing a dress that makes you look glamorous and should it be comfortable wearing whatever you have selected from the rack. Whatever size you are blessed with, comfort must always precede style.

If you are overweight and there’s no time to lose all those unwanted pounds in six months times, you shouldn’t be scared to choose a stylish design. If the bridal salon does not have the dress-size in stock, they can stitch you up a dress with a design you want. You must go to the scheduled fittings and visit the shop two weeks before the wedding to give them time to alter the dress if you lost or gained a few inches on the waist. Pimp up your style with accessories and don stylish shoes and you’re ready to go.

If you are petite with a small frame to go with it, check out the petite section for bridesmaid dresses. Fit on the styles that catch your eye and choose one with a good fit and a cut that enhances your body shape. Avoid dresses with enormous ruffles and wide belts – you’ll disappear from sight. Instead opt for simple lines and dresses that show more of your legs and arms and cleavage.

For a regular frame and size, ‘massive alterations’ will not be required. A few stitches to raise the hem might be in order and that’s about it. Still, you have to choose a dress that flatters your figure and hides your flaws.

When to Shop for Your Dress

Brides shop for their wedding dress six month before the altar date. This gives them time to compare prices for bridal packages. You girls should do the same when shopping for bridal dresses. You cannot find the dream dress in a day. You need at least two weeks to shop around. Once you have found your perfect dress, make an order and appear for fitting sessions. The dresses are usually delivered a week before the wedding so make sure you go to the final fitting before the delivery date. Whatever size and shape you’re in, you must have the best fitting of bridesmaid dresses. So take the shopping seriously instead of struggling to fit into a dress that definitely won’t fit on the big day.

Getting ready for the big day? Shop for bridesmaid dresses and plus size wedding dresses or petite wedding gowns in top one-stop bridal shops in Mississauga. For more particulars, visit BestForBride.com today.

Of Shoes and Evening Dresses

Have you ever heard about the comment: why do women need too many pairs of shoes? Well, the truth is, women are in love with shoes and come hell or high water, they will certainly buy loads of shoes throughout their lifetime. After all, shoes should be matched with outfits, and different occasions call for different styles. Evening dresses, for instance, should need those immaculate Jimmy Choo’s, and not the comfortable Nike’s. Be that as it may, it is rational to say that women certainly need too many pairs of shoes.

evening dress

Women are also about social gatherings – weddings, proms, company parties, important dinners. What comes next after finding the perfect gown is the perfect pair of shoes. Therefore, after choosing one from a handful of wedding dresses, a lady should choose the perfect heels.

So, how exactly should you choose the pair of shoes that’s perfect for your gown? How do you mix and match shoes and evening dresses?

Color

To know which shoes to wear, ask yourself first: do you want to match the color of your dress or would you like contrast? If you want to be all-matching, then choosing your shoes is simple. Gold evening dresses with gold heels, little black dresses with black stilettos.

But if you want to go for contrast, you can always play with colors. Nowadays, you usually see ladies wearing black evening dresses and pairing them with delicious red shoes! That is a sight to behold.

Another option for you is to match the color of your shoes with the color of your handbag.

Style

Choosing the style of your shoes is also sometimes a difficult task. A little guide for you would be to choose a pair that complements the embellishments in your dress. For instance, if yours is one of those evening dresses that are accented with rhinestones, then choose a pair of shoes that have similar decoration.

Also, if your gown is made of flowing, silk material, then strappy sandals are ideal. On the other hand, if it is made of heavy silk, then leather pumps or velvet shoes would fit them perfectly.

Height

How high should you go when it comes to heels? Well, it all depends. First, it depends on the length of your evening dress. A 5-inch stiletto would be ideal if you’re all about sweeping evening gowns. But the same heel height won’t be ideal if your date is not that tall. After all, our society smiles if between a couple, the guy is taller than the woman.

When attending weddings, it might not be a very good idea to wear super high heels – else you risk tripping and ruining the wedding decoration – Toronto or elsewhere.

evening dress

Comfort Above anything else, comfort should be your main gauge when choosing the perfect shoes. Regardless of the beauty of a pair of stilettos, but if you are not comfortable being in it, then you would look scrappy. Uncomfortable shoes would look awkward on you.

Therefore, in matching evening dresses and shoes, make sure to consider comfort. It is the number rule in shoe-selection.

Evening Gowns Galore: Choosing What’s Best for You

Evening gowns are not only for evening occasions. As such, when you own one, then you can definitely wear the same in another party -provided that the parties are at least three months apart and are not attended by the same guests, otherwise, people will think that your dress is your any-occasion uniform!

While it is lovely to be in a fabulous long gown, the task of finding the perfect dress for you is somewhat gruelling. There are so many things to consider; there are a thousand evening dresses to fit before you set eyes on the perfect one. Choosing an evening gown is like choosing from among a variety of wedding cakes, you can’t decide what to get unless you’ve been into almost all cake shops in your town, or your country!

evening dress

Well, ladies, it’s but understandable for you try on a million and one evening gowns first before finally settling on “the evening dress.” Girls will be girls, so they say.

But if you don’t have the luxury of time (perhaps because your sister has asked for your help in looking for bridesmaid dresses in Toronto), you can always take a shortcut. Here are a few suggestions in making your evening gown trip a bit shorter, but more productive:

What’s Best for Your Body Type

Styles differ in order to fit certain body types. Equip yourself with this knowledge. Know when a certain style will accentuate your look. Know as well that even though how much a low-neckline gown will look good on a mannequin, it will never have the same effect on you if you don’t have a “full bust.”

If you are bottom heavy, choose evening gowns that skim over the lower part of your body. If you are not very confident of your legs, then you can always choose floor-length dresses. In the same way, if you feel that you have small busts, then use an empire cut. The trick here is to know what type of body shape you have and to know the style of gown that looks best on such a kind of figure.

evening dresses

What’s the Best Fit

Even if you’ve chosen the perfect style for your body shape, if you don’t choose the gown that has a perfect fit, you would end up looking like someone who borrowed that dress from someone else. Don’t force yourself in getting into evening gowns that are 1-2 inches smaller. You might say that this is your strategy of slimming down but if the trick doesn’t work, you run the risk of wasting a great dress, and a sufficient amount of money.

What’s the Best Color

In choosing a gown, you must always get the color that works best with your complexion. Sometimes, this department constrains you because wedding parties, for instance, have motifs. Otherwise, if there’s no rule on color, you must always choose those that make you look lighter, or slimmer. Evening gowns in monochromatic tones do a perfect job in making you look taller and slimmer.

Taking all these into account – the right style, the right fit, the right color – you would surely be able to find the perfect dress for you. Of course, don’t forget to accessorize and to get the most elegant yet most comfortable shoes. With these, whenever you get invited to a party, you will are always ready to look fabulous and superb!

Evening Dresses: Styles for Your Every Mood

Whether you are going to a prom dress, a cocktail party, a wedding dress, or simply going out with your long-time crush, you need to be on the appropriate outfit. A first date can go a long way if have wowed your guy with a sexy but equally respectful cocktail dress. Who knows, after the success of that date, you are already on your way to shopping for bridesmaid dresses (you are not the bridesmaid, of course, but the bride!)

Thus, in choosing your evening dresses, you need to find the style appropriate for the occasion, or your mood. You need to get a bridesmaid dress – and not some slutty disco dress – if you are the bridesmaid. You need to dress appropriately, so to speak.

Here are a few styles that you can choose from the next time that you go shopping for evening dresses:

The Bias Cut It’s not certain where the term came from but indeed, bias cut evening dresses have some bias. They are biased to those who have the right curves and the perfect body! The fabric is cut diagonally so that it literally hugs your curves. So if you are preparing for an ultra-sexy night, choose this style of dress.

A few notes, however. With bias cut evening dresses, you can’t wear much underneath. Yes, bra straps and panty lines become visible and they may just be an expensive distraction to your sexy, siren-y entrance. So if you decide to get sex with the bias cut, make sure that you can go all the way sexy!

The Basque Waist Also known as the low U or dropped V waist, this style is great for almost any body type. The v-shaped waist provides an illusion of length. This is also great in flattering your well-defined waist. If you are petite, then this style will help you get a fuller figure.

The Mermaid Just like the bias cut, evening dresses of mermaid cut are great for showing off those curvy curves! This gown is fitted from the bodice all the way to the thighs and it “bells” around the knees.

Just a couple of precautions when wearing a mermaid cut. First, make sure that the fit is right as you may have difficulty sitting down when in this style of dress. Second, avoid this type if you are bottom-heavy as your wide hips will really be emphasized.

The Ballerina Dress Evening dresses in ballerina cut are not supposed to be worn on simple dates. Otherwise, your date will think that you’re running late for a ball! This style is literally “big” as it features a full skirt. This is best if you are heavy-busted since the volume of the skirt will balance your top figure.

This style of dress is considered to be one of the most romantic, thus, this is ideal for formal occasions where love and romance is in the air.

Men would not understand why women spend a considerable amount of time searching for a single dress. Don’t attempt to let them understand. Let them be. Just surprise them at how certain styles of evening dresses will give you different fabulous looks. Your point is not in making men distinguish an A-line from an Empire cut. Instead, you purpose is to let their jaw drop at the sight of you and your fabulous evening gown!

BestForBride.com is not only for the brides. It’s also for bridesmaids searching for the perfect bridesmaid dresses. It’s also for wedding guests looking for fabulous evening dresses. Whether your problem is your wedding dress or your bridesmaid dress, the site has a solution to that.

In Search of the Perfect Evening Dresses

Evening dresses are not only used for occasions that are held from 6 o’clock onwards – they can also be worn during the day. This type of “attire” could also be used as bridesmaid dresses and other special occasion dresses. The uses of evening dresses are so many. Thus, if you are planning to get one for a particular occasion, you have a lot of factors to consider.

Your Budget

If you are part of a wedding entourage and the couple will provide you with a bridesmaid dress, then you don’t have to think about budget. This will only become one of your primary concerns if you are going to a cocktail party and are looking for something decent to wear.

Before you decide on which dress to buy, set your budget first. You can always opt to have an evening gown tailor made so you can save and so you will rest knowing that it has a perfect fit.

Your Purpose

Choosing one from among many fabulous evening dresses may be a bit hard – sometimes you just wish that you can buy all those that caught your fancy. The kind of occasion will largely determine the style and color of your evening dress. If you are wearing it to a wedding, then of course you prefer a gown that is in line with the motif. Semi-formal evening dresses may be used for garden events and other semi-formal occasions.

Your Preferred Style

Perhaps, the primary consideration in choosing evening dresses is the style. You want a dress that is trendy and at the same time, comfortable. You also want a gown that can flaunt your best assets and that can hide your less than perfect features.

This is the time when you may want to consult fashion magazines and your friends for the style of dress that will fit your body shape. For example, if you consider your breasts as your asset, then choose evening dresses that have a low neckline. They will certainly do a fine job in flaunting this God-given gift.

Color and length are also other aspects of the evening dress that you need to decide on. Choose a color that will compliment your natural glow or your body size. If you are somewhat voluptuous, you could always go for black evening dresses – such a color will make you look slim.

On another note, if you are challenged on the height department, then you should go for above-the-knee evening dresses. If you are tall and slender, then floor-length gowns would look great on you.

If you want to be practical, you can always choose evening dresses that can be “recycled” for other special occasions. Times are hard these days, you know. For example, if you’re going to have a company party in July and are set to attend a wedding on August, then you might want to choose an evening dress that can be used for both occasions. Kind of hitting two birds with one stone…

Dresses are among the weaknesses of women. Therefore, choosing evening dresses is an exciting and a stressful task. To make the most out of this experience, make sure that you’ve covered all aspects in choosing a gown – that’s the only way to get hold of the evening dress that’s meant for you!

Dresses galore at BestForBride.com. Wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses and evening dresses are available in all styles and colours. Whether you are looking for a bridesmaid dress or your very own wedding gown, you will never leave the site empty-handed.

When Wedding Dresses and Mothers-In-Law Don’t Match: Tips to Overcome Escalating In-Law Tension

According to a long-term study conducted by Dr. Terri Apter, a psychologist, almost 75 percent of married women admit to mother-in-law difficulties. These, in turn, have resulted in unhappiness and stress on both sides. Contrast that with the substantially lower incidence – just 15 percent – of troubles between mothers-in-law with their sons-in-law and you will realize that you probably need to befriend your hostile future mother-in-law even before looking through all those wedding dresses!

Find a Neutral Ground

Before talking to your future mother-in-law to resolve your conflicts, you have to agree on a neutral venue. This must be a quiet place away from the meddling and needling of other family members, which will allow the conversations to flow more smoothly. Besides, the conflict is primarily between you and your mother-in-law and the presence of interested (in gossip) parties can muddle the issues.

And who knows? The next grounds you will step on are stores selling wedding dresses.

Wedding dress

Agree to Disagree

The abovementioned study states that the conflicts between women in-laws start with disagreements on domestic matters like cooking, cleaning and children’s welfare. Well, of course, you will have disagreements simply because you were raised in different generations under different circumstances!

Thus, you will have to agree to disagree on the details of domesticity. Instead, you must focus on general principles and values that will affect the general welfare of the son/spouse and the grandchildren. Soon enough, you might even laugh over the ridiculousness of those ‘80s-inspired wedding dresses.

Focus on the Relevant Issues

Often in confrontations, serious disagreements get muddled by side issues. To avoid this from happening, you can make a list of the things that you feel are the main sources of friction. It does not have to be detailed, just as a general guideline.

Bridal gown

When you are conversing with your future mother-in-law, strive to be respectful of her view. In the same way, you have to demand from her the respect that you deserve as the woman her son chose for a wife. When there is mutual respect, you are better able to focus on each other’s feelings and how each one affects the other.

For example, if the issue is about your initial choices of wedding dresses, you can always calmly discuss the reasons for your choices while considering her reasons as valid to a point. It may sound trivial but, often, starting with the little things paves the way for the big things.

Avoid Name-Calling

Not only is name-calling infantile, it can hurt people more than actions ever do. You both need to be calm, cool and collected at all times. Otherwise, it will be exercises in futility, not to mention escalate the tensions to more unmanageable levels. You need to remember that you might be the future wife but your future mother-in-law will always be the mother of your fiancé.

You, on the other hand, might find yourself shredding your wedding dresses when your groom-to-be grows tired of your bickering and just cancels the wedding. Let’s hope it will be temporary.

Indeed, it can provide peace of mind to the wedding planning when you know that both sides are agreeable to the union. At the very least, you can focus more time on finding the right wedding dresses for the ceremony and the reception!

Horrors to Avoid in Mother of the Bride Dresses

Much thought has been given to the bride’s and bridesmaids’ gowns and dresses during the wedding planning, which can cause the selection of mother of the bride dresses to be, well, an afterthought. Horror of horrors, this ought not to be!

Why? Well, because the mother of the bride will also be in the pictures and the videos and you can’t allow her to look dowdy, disastrous and disgusting, that’s why. With that being said, here are horrors to avoid in mother of the bride dresses.

H – Hugs like a Second Skin

Sure, you don’t like your mother to look matronly but you don’t want her to look like she could spill her oxygen-deprived internal organs all over the church at any moment either. Don’t forget, too, that many ripping accidents have happened at weddings, which you definitely will not want to happen to your mother.

O – Open to Speculation

Remember the mother of the bride dresses that competed for the title of the world’s airiest dress? Yes, stay away from the light, er, from them! Not only do they threaten to expose delicate body parts that must be hidden from view in a solemn wedding ceremony but it simply will not do for guests to speculate on what body parts will indeed make a run for it. It’s your wedding day, not your mother’s humiliation day.

Mother dress

R- Rigid to the Bone

Sure, rigid corsets can shape the body of a mature woman with extra poundage. However, you need to remember that your mother needs to breathe, needs to move, and needs to eat at your wedding. Besides, it’s the 21st century, not the 16th century with its fondness for stiff corsets! Instead, look for mother of the bride dresses that will flatter the figure but provide comfort for hours on end.

R- Rich Details

Nowadays, the design emphasis is on simple elegance. As such, your initial selection needs to adhere to this fashion dictum. Avoid unnecessarily rich details like ribbons and bows, heavy embroidery and glittering sequins, appliqués and cutouts. If you don’t want to inflict such pain on your bridesmaids, why would you inflict it on your mother?

O – Outrageous Designs

Admittedly, having an avant-garde mother has its merits. But unless your wedding veers towards unorthodox themes, it’s best to stick to fashionable-for-her-age designs that are classic, stylish and elegant. Besides, she might want to use the mother of bride dresses in other occasions, with some alterations, so it’s good advice to stick to the mainstream designs.

Mother of the bride dress

R – Retro

On the other side of the fence are retro-inspired mother of the bride dresses. Again, unless you have a retro wedding, try to find something that will complement the general theme of the wedding, which nowadays often means contemporary. If you really want to inject retro, well, at least try to keep it to a minimum.

S- Slinky

There must be enough cloth on this Earth to cover up body areas like the thighs and legs, chest and arms, back and buttocks of the women in your wedding entourage. So, why is it that your mother must sashay down the aisle in a dress that screams “Cloth Scarcity”? No reason at all!

The message is basically try not to embarrass your mother and yourself, stick to the wedding theme, and be mindful of the sensibilities of your wedding guests.
