Tales of Horror – Worst Ideas For Wedding Dresses You Must Avoid Fast!

Unless you intend to marry like Elizabeth Taylor, you only get to wear a wedding dress once in your life. Of course, if by chance or choice you do get married again and again, you would have many wedding dresses! (Don’t even think about recycling your old wedding dress. You might be saving on costs but you are not doing yourself any favors)

Due to the one-time nature of the wedding dress, you must carefully plan for it. And need we mention that cameras and video camcorders are unforgiving in recording for posterity and notoriety your wedding planning lapses including the worst wedding dress ideas anybody dared to apply?

Outrageously Unique Head Ensembles

When you walk down the aisle, people will start assessing your appearance from your veil to your shoes and then back again, hopefully to focus on your radiant face. What if they stop in shocked silence at your outrageously unique headgear? You want awed silence at the heavenly vision you present, not shocked silence at the horrific apparition of whatever is on your head!

You have to avoid wedding dresses with headgears that

1) look like the nests of wild animals and your grandma’s whole flower garden;
2) allow your groom to bask in the shade like very wide hats;
3) hide your face completely like layers upon layers of veil;
4) bastardize Queen Amidala’s elaborate head ensembles; and
5) get in the way of the first matrimonial kiss.

Basically, you need a simple and elegant veil that will highlight your face while providing for the traditional head cover required in most church weddings. If you want embellishments on the veil, you can always have a small tiara tucked in there.

Balloon Sleeves

You might not have arms to die-for but trying on all bridal dresses with big sleeves can be the death of your look. Why avoid big sleeves like the bubonic plague? Let us count a few reasons:

1) your groom cannot sit beside you because your sleeves take up all the room;
2) you will bump guests off the dance floor; and
3) you will bump the wedding cake unto the floor.

However, there are a few advantages to wedding dresses with big sleeves like:

1) your sleeves can serve as pincushions;
2) your groom can use them as handkerchief – just lean to the right and sneeze; and
3) you can use them as small bags. Indeed, for every cloud there is a silver lining.

Plunging Necklines

Your groom will appreciate the view but it is doubtful if the officiating priest will approve your plunging-to-the-nether-regions neckline. Maybe he will deliver a sermon on how there is a time for everything – a time to bare and a time to care. Or something like that.

If you are unfazed with the possibility of a long and winding sermon on how the modern Eves lead Adams to sin with their bridal gowns, then think about these possibilities:

1) your wedding rings can get lost in there and what a spectacle that will be;
2) your guests will stare at you and not in a good way – think jeers and leers; and
3) your turn being Janet Jackson with a wardrobe malfunction will happen on your most special of days. Do you really want your nipples to play peek-a-boo?

You have to remember that when it comes to wedding dresses, you might wear them once but you will wear their memories forever. And that is not including the guests who will remember you either in your most beautiful best or in your most horrible outfit ever! You choose.

If you are looking for an online bridal boutique, visit BestForBride.com and choose from among the best wedding favors and wedding dresses for your most special of days!

Precious Memories: Wedding Jewellery

It’s a fact; pieces of fine jewellery often get passed down through families.  In fact I myself am lucky enough to have my great, great grandmother’s wedding ring.  My sister owns a gold and emerald dress ring given to my grandmother by my grandfather, and my mother has a beautiful brooch that belonged to her grandmother.  I certainly intend to pass the ring I own down to my children when they are older, along with any other fine jewellery I inherit or acquire.

It’s not just the jewellery that’s important to be passed down in my opinion.  Actually, the jewellery is in fact secondary to something far more important: the story behind a piece.  My grandmother wrote me a letter when she left me the ring explaining when and where the wedding took place, the dates of birth of my great, great grandmother and grandfather, and more information about the history behind the ring.  I intend to keep that history alive and known in the family by passing it down, along with the piece of jewellery, to my own daughter one day in the hope that she too will do the same after I’m gone. This way the important family history and knowledge doesn’t die with the original owners of a piece of jewellery but lives on and is remembered through that piece.

The very fact that a lot of fine jewellery is passed down through generations is testament to the fact that it can last a lifetime and in fact much longer.  In order to keep fine jewellery looking its best and also to help it last it’s important to care for and clean it regularly.  Some items should be taken to a professional as they may not be easy to clean at home, and you should certainly seek advice from a professional before cleaning an old item of jewellery for the first time.

If you are fortunate enough to inherit a piece of fine jewellery the most important advice I can give you is to find out any story you can behind it, for example who was the first person in your family to own it, what did they do and how did they come to own it.  This information should be kept with the jewellery and passed down to your next of kin if you intend to keep the jewellery in the family so that they know a little bit of history about it.  I would also recommend you get the item valued, particularly if it is very old, by a professional and get it insured if it is very valuable.  As explained, keep it clean and in a safe and secure place but above all treasure it, as that is why it was given to you.

What to Look For in an Online Bridal Shop – Five Hot Tips

Tip No. 1

Budget is not an issue when you start searching for a bridal shop. These shops carry a line of designer wedding gowns priced accordingly from the most expensive to the very affordable for the budget conscious bride.

Tip No. 2

Customer service should be an issue in your choice of a bridal shop. Friendly customer service makes you comfortable in picking out the wedding dress and other formal gowns for the wedding entourage. The sales people should be patient and accommodating and not bulldozer you towards expensive gowns or to their outdated selections.

Tip No. 3

Smaller shops are friendlier than those shops offering high volume merchandise. The sales people are aware that you are looking for the wedding gown of your dreams and will offer you a wide selection plus gown alteration for a fee.

Tip No. 4

A bridal shop should carry a line of wedding services. Skip the search for wedding shoes and accessories, discounted wedding invitations, wedding cakes and wedding favors, and honeymoon destinations. It is practical to get the services from the same shop where you are getting your wedding dress because you can get more discounts. You also do not have to deal with a number of shops, which can be confusing and time consuming.

Tip No. 5

The bridal shop should have a stock for the plus sized and the petite. The salesperson should be knowledgeable about body shapes and types of fabrics that would enhance your body shape.

The Best Surprises Come in Small Packages

It is a toss-up between big bridal shops and the small bridal boutique. Small bridal shops win hands down if you want personalized service. You can find this out by visiting the local bridal store in your locality or by the prompt response to your queries from online shops.

When the salespeople don’t rush you to make a purchase, you have found the shop that wants you to help fulfill your wedding fantasies. It does not matter if you buying an expensive gown or renting an affordable bridal dress, so you are better off here. With small shops, you are in the company of sales people who are after your complete satisfaction.

Surprisingly small stores carry the latest in designer gowns and offer an assortment too. These shops provide gown and accessories rentals if you decide to rent the whole kit and caboodle for you, your bridesmaids, and your mother and your mother-in-law to be. It would be fun swooping down to the shop with your family and friends for your first look-see.

Choosing your wedding gown should not be confusing if you stick to the wedding theme and your budget. With the information, the bridal shop of your choice will steer you to the appropriate gowns if you let them know what you want.

If you cannot explain the details or describe the bridal dress, it would help to have a picture of the gown, probably a cut-out from a bridal magazine, with you. The bridal shop will offer similar gowns or may have the very one thing you are looking for. Now you are ready to shop for your bridal dress.

The best bridal shop offer shopping convenience from wedding gowns to wedding favors to discount wedding invitations. Why look elsewhere when BestForBride.com has them all and at affordable prices?

Bridal Dress Inspirations From Around the World

If you want a truly unique bridal dress on your wedding day, you can look for inspirations from the wedding attire of different cultures. You can veer away from the traditional white gown, the trendy strapless bodice, the long veil, and the seed pearls and embroidery of your peers’ wedding gowns. Of course, you will need a certain unorthodox spirit to carry out your inspired wedding dress plus a husband who will cater to your whims. If he is of the culture you borrowed your inspiration from, then better for you!

The Indian Sari

You have seen a sari worn by Indian beauty queens like Aishwarya Rai. You cannot deny how these flowing garments emphasize feminine grace and attributes while leaving plenty to the imagination. Add in colorful threads and embellishments and you have one head-turning dress!

For Indian weddings, the traditional colors are red and white that symbolizes fertility, wealth and purity. Instead of an all-white bridal dress, you can inject touches of red – a ribbon or hem embroidery perhaps. If you want to take it one step further, you can design a sari-inspired wedding gown. You would have dispensed of stiff petticoats and restraining corsets and just be comfortable during the wedding ceremony and the reception.

The Irish Blue

The traditional Irish bridal dress is blue, which symbolizes purity. Lest you think that it should be green since it is the color of Ireland, it is actually considered bad luck for the bride to wear green. (Thus, if invited to an Irish wedding, avoid wearing green, too)

You can wear a blue-hued dress, if you want. Better yet, you can always use the finest Irish lace in your wedding dress. Not only do you go haute couture, you also have an exquisite dress on your wedding day!

The Scottish Tartan

Fortunately for you, The Scottish bridal dress is traditionally white or cream. However, you can add touches of tartan to your dress – tartan ribbons on your bouquet, tartan trimmings, tartan shawl, or a tartan waist sash. This livens up an otherwise all-white ensemble with tradition particularly when your family or that of your husband’s has Scottish origins.

Or if you do not want a tartan, you can always have Celtic knot work embroidered on your wedding gown to symbolize eternal love. At the very least, you have ancient patterns with meanings instead of the customary flowers and leaves.

The Hispanic Heritage

If you are of Hispanic heritage, the tradition about wearing something borrowed takes on a different meaning. Your wedding dress might very well be the wedding dress of your mother and your grandmother, with a few revisions to suit your bodily measurements. This reflects your pride of family, a trait highly valued in Hispanic societies.

The Spanish traditional wedding gown represents a radical departure from the customary white of Western weddings. The Spanish bride wears a black gown and a lacy mantilla veil to symbolize her devotion to her husband until death. If you choose a Spanish-influenced gown vis-vis color, you do not need to despair. You can sew in ribbons of yellow, blue and red into your lingerie or infuse touches of these colors into your gown.

Of course, when you do choose a foreign influence as inspiration for your bridal dress, do not make the mistake of turning it into a hodgepodge of clashing ideas. You want a timeless appeal with a traditional touch to your wedding gown!
