3 Ways to Cut Cost on Wedding Flowers

With all the things you’ll have to worry about paying for when it comes to your wedding, you won’t want to have to spend a lot of cash for slightly smaller things, like accents, decorations, and flower arrangements. Since most brides do want to have flowers at their weddings, and would prefer to purchase them at a reasonable price, here are some ways to save on wedding flowers that you may want to try:

Buy synthetic flowers.

Synthetic flowers may cost a little more when you buy them in bulk because of the material, but they could save you money because they last as long as you need them to. Many people have fresh flower bouquets for the bride, bridesmaids, and flower girls, and these tend to whither rather quickly, especially if the ceremony is indoors. So, you may end up buying more flowers than you actually need in order to keep the flowers looking good for pictures after the ceremony. You can also find colors or types of flowers that may not be in bloom at the time you are having the wedding if you buy synthetic flowers. This way, you’ll have more freedom to create the look you want for your ceremony. If you want to decorate the reception with flowers as well, synthetic flowers may be a good idea, so that you can maintain the look of the room for as long as you need to. And, since most brides want to keep their bouquets, buying synthetic flowers is definitely a good idea.

Plan your bouquet size.

Many brides end up spending more than they wanted to on a bouquet because they didn’t count the amount of flowers that would be in the arrangement, or select flowers that will look good with not-so-expensive accents. Make sure you know just how big you want your bouquet to be, as well as what type of flowers you want to include. And, carrying a single flower down the aisle is wonderful look for a bride as well. You can use a lily, daisy, or even a rose with lace or pearl accents as your bouquet, and add a unique touch to the ceremony. Small bunches of flowers can also be beautiful, proving that, as with most other things, less can definitely be more. If you want to get fresh flowers for your bouquet, selecting flowers that are in season will also help you to save money, since a florist may have to specially order out-of-season flowers, which can increase the bouquet price significantly.

Plan ahead.

Even though flowers for the wedding may seem like a small thing, don’t wait until the last minute to make sure that you have the flowers you want for your wedding. You may have to spend more money to find flowers you want the closer you get to the ceremony, so make sure that you have decided whether or not you’ll purchase flowers from a local florist or order synthetic flowers.

Wedding speech Do’s and Dont’s

So, you are the Best Man or the Maid of Honor at a wedding? And thinking of those tense moments when few dozen or few hundred eyes are going to stare at you, looking at you while you are delivering the speech. How to manage those not-so-sweet minutes that are going to put your heart racing in a sprint? There are some ways to follow so that you pass with flying colors to an extent that the whole assembly enjoys it, including you.

First of all, your wedding speech shouldn’t be offensive to someone in the audience. It is always a good idea to avoid any comments on religion and politics. You may not have meant something, but it may get perceived that way. This may lead to some troublesome situation. Secondly, avoid being on a negative note. You don’t need to tell people that this is the first time you are delivering such a speech before a huge audience like this. In any case, if it is a bad one, people will already have guessed it, You don’t need to confirm it and lose some more confidence in the process.

Avoid jokes that fall in personal zone. You may crack jokes as a generic entity, but shouldn’t dwell on a particular individual or community. This always leads to quarrelsome situation. Also, don’t ever laugh at your own jokes. If you still feel that the joke was good but the public didn’t respond to it properly, it will be a good idea to drop all the jokes from the speech.
When you are waiting in the queue to have your speech delivered, that is the tensest moment, at times more tense than the actual delivery of the speech. You can overcome this problem by repeating the first line of your speech to yourself while some one else is delivering the speech.

If you are going to speak about some anecdote or story rela ted to the couple, check whether other speakers have already used it. If that is the case, it is always better to remove it from your list. Your audience may not be interes ted in hearing the same thing again.

Remember, if you have an opportunity to be a speaker at a wedding, treat this as the greatest opportunity of life. Important to know is that no one in the audience wants you to fail on this. Everyone is on your side. It may not be true for speech opportunities at other places.

Creative Wedding Cards

You invitation is a reflection on the type of wedding its going to be weather it be formal, informal or themed this will be transparent in the invitation. The invitation is the only essential stationary required everything else is optional.

Save the date

This card is sent several months in advance to guests that have a long distance to travel, it is simple courtesy to let them know your plans so they can start making their own. These cards only need the Bride and Grooms names and the date and location of the wedding. It’s a good idea to include “Invitation to follow” so they don’t keep calling for the details that are not available yet like reception location and time.

The Invitation

As before these will reflect the type of wedding to come so chose the style accordingly. Most people spend between 1-2% of the budget on the stationary. When ordering your stationary remember to include 10 extra to provide for mistakes and late invites. This will be cheaper than having to reorder a new batch. It a good idea to let another person check the invites before they go out to make sure all is in order and spelled correctly. The invitation will include the names of the hosts; the brides name the grooms name, the ceremony location, date and time, the reception location and the RSVP address. If children are being invited include on the invitation if not leave out.

Reply Card

The reply card is an optional but efficient way of getting the guest list finalized. You can also include a menu option so that guest with dietary needs can be catered for. Don’t for get the stamp so that guest can reply promptly.

wedding Service Programme

Similar to mass booklets but contain more information. They may include the whole wording of the ceremony, which will provide for a lovely memento of the day especially if the couple has written their own vows. This also offers the scope to mention deceased loved ones or to give a little background on the wedding party or to explain any unfamiliar rites. You can even go further by including poems, photos etc.

Place Cards

These are traditionally small cards engraved with guests name and each seating place. Now more couples are finding creative ways to replace these. One option is to carve the names into small pebbles or stones and offer to guests as a memento you imagination is the limit with this so don’t be afraid to let it run riot.

Thank you cards

These are absolutely essential to thank each guest for his or her attendants and gifts you received. You can opt to match these to the invitation cards or pick up a pack of pre-printed cards from your local card shop. Take time to write a hand written note to each on the card to each guest as it is only courtesy and will be remembered.

Special Touches

Besides the choices of text, type, paper and design there are lots of ways to personalize and add that special touch to your cards. Trimmings can range from feathers to pearls, shells flowers or ribbons each design can be unique. Another option can be the original watercolor of the church where the ceremony is taking place or the coat of arms of the bride and grooms family branded on the invitation. Photogenic designs and laser cut monograms of the couple’s initials on the front of the card is a hot new trend.

Information packs

In addition to the invitation itself you can include directions to the church and reception, local tourist attractions for distant relatives and even details of the wedding list. Such details will be appreciated by the out of town wedding guests who will be unfamiliar with the place your getting married and be interested in favorite bars, restaurants and tourist attractions if any.

DIY Stationary

One way to save money and add that personal touch to the stationary is to make your own. This is more popular than ever and there is an abundant choice of card paper and trinkets to choose from including high quality hand made and floral paper. You can add organza ribbon, feathers, shells the options are limitless all you will need is a printer to add the script or why not try your hand at some DIY calligraphy to add a definite personalized touch. Although this method of creating your own stationary takes time it can be highly rewarding.

Extreme Wedding Cake Makeover Ideas

Are you tired of seeing the traditional three tier wedding cake with simple white frosting and the little bride and groom wedding cake topper. We all know the iconic wedding cake look and feel. If you are after a very formal or classic wedding then this is the exact cake you want. However, today many couples are opting for alternative wedding themes and a more relaxed feeling overall. With popular wedding themes like fairy tales, Dragonflies and other fun and light or even whimsical themes a traditional wedding cake no longer fits correctly in its place. It is nor time to take that old wedding cake out of the closet it and give it a whole new look. America seems to be in love with the idea of a makeover from the hit TV shows like extreme Body Makeover, extreme Home makeover and the ever popular Pimp My Ride America seems to be in a love with makeovers. Well, wedding cakes are no different and today’s couples are going for more unusual, light and fun ideas for wedding cakes. So why not try some of these custom wedding cake ideas.

Creative and Custom wedding cake Toppers

There are a ton of different wedding cake toppers on the market today and you are no longer stuck with what your local bakery has. You can now easily shop online and find retailers selling a wide variety of wedding cake toppers. You can have anything from the traditional bride and groom to the whacky and wild. If you are willing to pay a little extra you can get a custom wedding cake topper sculpted out of special non toxic clay like material and created in the likeness of you and your husband. If you are really into a sport or want to show something unique about the two of you as a couple then a custom wedding cake topper is the way to go. The artists can easily make a couple doing just about anything. So if you are avid rock climbers then you can have a bride and groom fashioned in your likeness that are on the top of Yosemite Half Dome, or whatever sport or activity you like.

If you don’t want to be that adventurous then you might want to go for a custom initials wedding cake topper. These are beautiful wedding cake toppers created from your initials and then decorated with small crystals. Whatever you choose there is a wedding cake topper either already made or that can be custom made to fit your wedding theme. Themed wedding Cakes

If you just go to your local bakery or even a small wedding cake shop you are likely to just find the standard wedding cake offerings or the traditional cake. However, if you really want to do a wedding cake makeover ask if they can do themed wedding cakes. There are a wide variety of options for a custom wedding cake and some of the ways that you can customize are listed below.

Decorations

If you are not sure about all of this and want to stick somewhat to tradtion then why not go for the traditional cake but add some flare to it through the decorations and frosting. Most wedding cake bakers can add a wide variety of different ornaments and decorations to the wedding cake to really make it stand out. Sure you can go with the traditional shaped cakes like the three tiered circle or even a tiered square cake but that does not mean you can’t go a little crazy and get some interesting decorations put on it with unique frosting ideas. Try to pick up on the theme of the wedding as much as possible.

Sculpted Cakes

Now this is where a custom wedding cake baker really can show off their talents and the types of projects they often love to do. A baker who can do a sculpted cake might take a little work to find however once you find one you are only limited by your ideas. Do you want a big castle wedding cake? They can easily do this to make a fairy tale wedding cake. If you want a beach themed wedding cake why not get a picnic basket or a beautiful sand castle wedding cake. If you are contemplating getting a sculpted cake you can really have any three dimensional design that you can think of. Why not try a hamburger and fries for a fun and light hearted beach wedding cake. The sky is the limited once you get a sculpted cake.

Mini Cakes and Cup Cakes

Again if you don’t quite feel ready to make the commitment to such a grand cake like above and want to keep a little bit on the traditional side yet with a flair of fun why not try a mini wedding cake or even cupcakes. These are fun because they are small individual serving sized cakes that your guests will love. If you are planning on having a small wedding it can be a lot of fun to create personalized mini wedding cakes for the guests.

Whatever you choose always keep in mind that there are options out there to customize, tweak, alter and change just about every factor of your wedding cake. Let you mind wander and have fun a bit and go for something a little different. Always make sure to plan ahead and leave enough time for the baker to do the extra job well. Otherwise you are all set to go with a fun and unique wedding cake that is a definite extreme makeover from the traditional three or five tiered wedding cake.
